They take sustainable winemaking seriously at Domaine Begude. Set in the heart of Languedoc’s Limoux region, the soils are totally organic and irrigation-free. Weeding is done manually, sheep manure is used as fertiliser and pesticides are banned. In other words, the Domaine cares both about making great wine and protecting the landscape. Fermentation in barrel produces this Chardonnay with gentle brioche, apple and pear notes – but it maintains plenty of freshness. Try it with a creamy risotto or seafood dishes, like fish pie.

Love this wine for the price. Now seriously examining the £10-£15 Chardonnays at Majestic & this is one of my favourites. Delaunay Septembre also recommended.

This is a reasonable Chardonnay and has a crispness and subtle taste. More like a Chablis than a sweet over sugary Chardonnay that some can be. Researching the grower interesting that they are a British couple in the Cote D'Or who produce good wine.

Just opened my first bottle of the 2017 vintage. This is an excellent example of a French oaked chardonnay from Limoux

A wonderful wine, you like it if your tastes run to exotic Sauvignon Blancs but as a reasonably priced alternative to pricey burgundies fill your boots

Just opened my first bottle of the 2017 vintage. This is an excellent example of a French oaked chardonnay from Limoux, demonstrating once again what Burgundy could do if it wanted to break away from its over-priced, citrus style chardonnay that so many people seem to rave about. Apart from the very best examples, a touch of emperors new clothes as far as I'm concerned. Even so, Domaine Begude seem intent in following Burgundy with its over-pricing. This is an excellent wine but I find it impossible to justify the £15.99 full price let alone the £13.99 Majestic Mix 6 price. The 2017 is no longer available, which had a Decanter Gold Award. The 2019 vintage can only muster a Bronze award but the price remains the same. Clearly, as if the honest ones amongst us need telling, there is no relationship between quality and price where wine is concerned. I should say that I live in France and have done since 2005 so, as a passionate wine fan, know a little of what I speak.
