ITALY

Amarone is one of Italy’s most celebrated wines. Hailing from the Valpolicella region, it’s made from Corvina grapes that have been partially dried before crushing. This makes for concentrated dried-cherry aromas and a distinctly rich, powerful wine. Allegrini’s version, made in the heart of the prestigious Vapolicella Classico sub-region, strikes a happy balance between modernity and tradition. Expect intense notes of ripe dark fruit and spice. Try it with a fillet steak or Italian-style braised beef stew.

This really is a deep, rich and full-bodied red, with magnificent ripe, dark, flavours swirling through it. Superb on a cold winter's evening. It gets even better with age - the flavours become smoother, deeper and mellower. Still working my way through my '98 Allegrini Amarones - gets more and more difficult to open one, as that means there's one less in the cellar.....

A truly incredible wine that is made from grapes that have been left to dry off the vine in the attic of the winery for around nien months. Complex, deep rich flavours from this dry fermented wine make this a truly memorable experience.
