About the producer
Owned by the Lencastre family, Filipa de Lencastre is produced near the town of Penafiel, close to the eastern edge of the Vinho Verde wine region. They’re one of a few esteemed local producers who are transforming the image of Portugal’s popular refreshing ‘green wine’ into a food-friendly pour worth taking seriously.

About the region
In the north-eastern reaches of Portugal, sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains, Vinho Verde is cooler and wetter than many other parts of Iberia. It’s the perfect growing conditions for Alvarinho, the signature local grape variety. Running along the region’s northerly reaches, the Minho River is another major moderating influence on the climate.

Food and Wine Pairings
Pair this wine with Claire Thomson’s Moules Marinière. Alvarinho's citrusy flavours and abundant acidity work brilliantly here. This one has notes of fresh bread, so if you’re enjoying the dish with a hunk of crusty baguette it will seriously elevate the pairing.
