Cellar 99' Gemischter Satz

Gemischter Satz is a ‘field blend’ of six different white grape varieties – including Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Riesling – that have all been harvested and fermented together. In the hands of star producer Willy Bauer, the result is a distinct and fruity white wine with just a touch of spritz.

About the producer
He comes from an 11th-generation family winery in a historic pocket of European viticulture. Yet Willy Bauer has his focus set firmly on the future. He’s sustainably minded, working organically and in an energy-neutral winery. Willy’s given a touch of cool to traditional wines such as Gemischter Satz too, so it's little wonder he was named Young Wine Talent of the Year 2022 by Falstaff Magazine.

About the region
Lower Austria’s Weinviertel is a fertile region of rolling peaks and steep slopes through which snake the Thaya, March and Danube rivers. Throw in 7,000 years of human history and it’s not surprising that wine has long been a big part of the picture. Archaeologists have unearthed grape pips dating back to around 800BC when the area was on the ancient Amber Road trading route.

Food and Wine Pairings
Pair this wine with Claire Thomson’s Gourgères. Freshness is key when it comes to appetiser pairings and this zingy field blend has it in abundance. Citrus, stone fruits and a tingle of spritz make a delicious contrast to the rich pastry.
