It hails from the warm climate and fertile soils of the Big Rivers region in south-eastern Australia, rather than the more typical Barossa. A juicy and bold wine with notes of blackberry, damson, spice and pepper, it’s just the thing for pairing with food.

About the producer
Deakin Estate began as a grape grower, but its ambitions must have always been lofty – after all, the brand is named after Alfred Deakin, Australia’s second president. Since 1980 they’ve had their own winery, and a stock of old vines allows the team to produce bottlings with considerable character.

About the region
Vast rivers do indeed meander through the vineyards of the Big Rivers region, bringing much-needed hydration and life to the sun-baked soils. While the area isn’t as well known as many of Australia’s other wine regions, this balance of climate and landscape creates great conditions for growing quality grapes.
