Aromatic Albariño is most often associated with the north of Spain and Portugal, but thanks to the tempering influence of the nearby Atlantic, it thrives just as well here in sun-soaked Uruguay. This version is made with cutting-edge wine tech to make it really shine.

About the producer
In 1904 Carlos Domingo Traversa arrived in Uruguay with his parents, spending his youth as a vineyard worker. Half a century later he founded this winery with his children, who, alongside his grandchildren, still keep his dream alive today. As part of their sustainability programme they generate renewable energy and use crushed grape skins, stalks and stems as compost.

About the region
Set just outside the capital Montevideo, Canelones is the heart of Uruguayan winemaking, turning out around two-thirds of the country’s production. Rich clay hillsides are refreshed by coastal breezes, dispelling humidity and creating just the right conditions for ripening Albariño. Most of the producers here are small, so there are lots of interesting discoveries to be made.

Enjoy this wine with Charred Leeks with Brown-butter Vinaigrette, Goat’s Cheese & Toasted Hazelnuts. Elegant stone fruits and citrus work alongside the sweetness of the leeks, while plenty of acidity works to keep the pairing fresh.
