Cuartel No.73 Carignan

Las Veletas | Chile

Cuartel No.73 Carignan | Wine Club by Majestic

Thought the Americas didn’t have wine tradition? Think again. This Carignan is hand-harvested from a plot planted in 1915, with tiny yields and a retro pruning system. Clean and fresh, its evocative notes of sour cherry, dried cranberry and Provençal herbs are intense, yet the overall effect is still polished. Think of it as history in a bottle.

About the producer
Las Veletas (‘the weather vanes’) is a partnership between renowned enologist Rafael Tirado and Raúl Dell’Oro, owner of this old-established wine estate in San Javier lined with old Carignan and País vines. The project began in 1998 with the aim of making good wine for family and friends, driven by an agenda of experimentation and imagination. Things have expanded since, but there’s still a strict policy of quality over quantity.

About the region
One of the sub-regions of Chile’s Central Valley, the Maule Valley is most celebrated for its red wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère. Vast in size, it contains many microclimates and an incredible diversity of soils. In short, it’s a great spot for experimentation.

Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine with Venison Loin with Charred Spring Onions, Horseradish Cream, Onion Ash & Gremolata. The wine's savoury character matches that of the meat, while herbaceous notes pair with the zesty gremolata.
