Pair with seafood

For fans of Sauvignon Blanc, we’ve got some idyllic seafood pairings to include in your menu. In the Wither Hills Wairau Valley Sauvignon, local winemaker Matt Large sources grapes from both estate vineyards and partner growers, where a variety of microclimates shape wines with intensity and body. It goes especially well with oysters and shellfish.Or, from a winery situated in the heart of the Marlborough wine growing region, is the Fairleigh Estate Sauvignon Blanc. It is designed around the concept of ‘batch’ winemaking and the winery has over 250 tanks ranging from 600 up to 240 litres, allowing them to assess the quality of the juice and wine that each vineyard produces separately before blending. Its layers of fresh citrus mean it partners deliciously with mussels in a light wine sauce. If you prefer an Australian Sauvignon, go for the Peter Lehmann ‘True Legend’ Sauvignon Blanc. The team sources grapes from more than 800 hand-tended vineyards across 14 Barossa sub-regions, choosing just the right bunches for each one of the diverse range of wines. The beautiful fresh fruit flavours of this one make it a great pairing with prawns.

For a Northern Hemisphere classic, try a firm favourite of Majestic customers with the Domini Veneti Soave Classico, best known for their ‘La Casetta’ Valpolicella. This is produced from grapes grown on volcanic soils in the heart of Italy’s Soave Classico region, Domini Veneti pour over 30 years of experience into every bottle. It is fantastic with the sharp flavours of a ceviche. For something a little more casual, there’s nothing better than an easygoing Estrella Damm. This beer was established by August Kuentzmann Damm who emigrated from Alsace with his wife Melanie, fleeing the Franco-Prussian War. They created this refreshing Mediterranean lager over 140 years ago and it is still brewed using their original recipe. It's delicious with any seafood feast, especially a classic paella.

Pair with tapas

Fantastic beer pairings don’t stop there, if you’d rather grab a hazy IPA, try the Beavertown ‘Lunar Haze’. Like all of Beavertown’s range, this beer features the brilliantly chaotic and unmistakable artwork of artist Nick Dwyer. It’s a fitting tribute to the beer itself – lively, tropical and full of flavour. We suggest pairing with some garlic gambas (prawns).

Or for something a little lighter, the Alhambra Reserva 1925 is a high quality, Spanish beer crafted to perfection. Full-bodied, extra smooth with a rich, highly agreeable taste for the demanding yet discerning palate, suitable for any occasion. A crowd pleaser that matches any light tapas dish.

If you’re trying your hand at some traditional tapas, vinegary or fried boquerones are a must! What could be better than the peachy flavour of the Domaine de Saint Ferréol Viognier to go with them. Made by a couple known for crafting some of Languedoc's best Viognier, this is lush and aromatic. Their wines are reminiscent of Condrieu but come without the usual price tag. This wine is partially fermented and matured in French oak on its lees, giving it a lush complexity.

If California is known for one white grape, it’s Chardonnay. And Josh Cellars makes a version that is well-balanced, delicious and carefully sourced – exactly what you want in a wine for sharing with friends and family - it's especially good with prawns and mussels. The world renowned Nyetimber English sparkling is a go to for elegant gifts, hosting and special moments. Made using the time-honoured traditional method, it’s a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from Nyetimber’s Sussex and Hampshire vineyards. Discover refreshing notes of redcurrant, raspberry and cherry that go especially well with langoustines.

Pair with a cheeseboard

Sauvignon doesn’t just go well with seafood, and if you want a pairing that will match soft and goat’s milk cheese, try the Vergelegen ‘Mill Race’ Sauvignon Blanc. Established in 1700, this heritage estate is known for crafting wines of exceptional quality. Grapes are meticulously picked by hand and crafted in their innovative gravity-flow winery. They're all about the purity of fruit, and you’ll certainly taste it in this elegant bottle.

If you’re looking for a complex red, go for the Pasqua 'Desire, Lush & Zin' Primitivo. Recently scooping up a Commended Award at the IWC 2023, this classic, earthy Primitivo has a modern twist inspired by plush Californian Zinfandel. Discover flavours of cherry, plum, coffee and vanilla. Try with the meats and spiced cheeses in your charcuterie platter.

For fans of comte and brie, the aromatic floral notes of the Louis Moreau Chablis match perfectly. The Moreau family’s roots in Chablis hail back to 1814 and 6th generation Winemaker, Louis Moreau has been leading the helm for almost 20 years. His wines have a unique style and flavour, combining mineral elegance and purity.

For a beer pairing, Bitburger premium pils is a great choice, especially if you enjoy pilsners and light lagers. For two centuries Bitburger has brewed beer using only the best ingredients. It's no wonder the distinct barrel-fresh taste of its Bitburger Premium Pils is the most poured beer in Germany! Delicious when paired with peppery cheeses.

Pair with beef and lamb dishes

If you’re cooking up something meaty, why not try the Chateau La Liquiere 'Terres du Sud' AOP Faugeres. Here, grapes from each vineyard block displaying the same style are fermented separately. Harvesting is done by hand, but in the winery, there is no set formula. Each vintage is unique and they try to adapt to the style of the vintage in a winemaking process which aims for simplicity and a very gentle approach. A great pairing for a Mediterranean style lamb dish. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with the Vergelegen ‘Mill Race’ Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot. At Vergelegen grapes are meticulously picked by hand and crafted in their innovative gravity-flow winery. This Bordeaux-style blend spends 18 months in oak before it's released, developing complex flavours and softening tannins. It makes for a great partner with lamb curry.

For Shiraz lovers, we recommend the Peter Lehmann ‘True Legend’ Shiraz. Matured in French oak hogsheads for 10 months, this exclusive Shiraz has bright and fresh raspberry flavours, and rich flavours of satsuma, plum and dark cherries. Perfect for a meaty casserole. If you’re making a classic roast lamb, you can’t go wrong with Cune Rioja. Though it’s nearly 150 years old, CVNE is still run by the family of the brothers who founded it. Rioja is all about the oak ageing – but back in 1900 most wineries sold their wines as soon as possible. However the brothers created an incredible ageing capacity of 80,000 bottles in their new winery.

For grilled lamb, the organic Domaine Lerys ‘Respelida’ has fantastic well balanced, earthy undertones. Domaine Lerys focuses on sustainable farming practices, ensuring the purity and quality of their wines. Respelida, meaning rebirth in the local language of Occitanie, emphasises the new generation as newest owner Alban Izard takes over.

Pair with desserts:

Finally, the all important Valentine’s sweet treat! If you’re looking for a red to match a chocolatey end to your meal, try the Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. Since day one the brand has believed in making great wines that are carefully sourced, well-balanced and – most importantly – delicious. They work with many different grape varieties, sourced from throughout the Golden State, including enduringly popular Cabernet Sauvignon.

If you prefer to finish with fizz, the Roebuck Estates Reserve is a must try. Located in the heart of the Sussex countryside, Roebuck Estates was founded in 2013 by two friends who shared a vision: to create premium vintage sparkling wines from the finest English vineyard sites. This Reserve is a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It goes especially well with an apple tart.

Otherwise you can’t go wrong with a classic Champagne and Lanson made one of the first rosé versions. 60 years later, they perfected their recipe. The Grande Marque's signature rosé is coloured a delightful salmon pink. It's well-rounded and fresh, with intriguing aromas of roses and red fruits. Lovely with some chocolate covered strawberries. Bollinger rosé is equally reputable. To make this elegant sparkling, they add a portion of an exceptional red wine made with grapes from top plots in their Pinot Noir vineyards. This brings deliciously fruity aromas to the finished fizz. Try with a light strawberry cake or pastry.

Whatever your plans this Valentine’s Day, as the ultimate celebration of love, we’re here to make it absolutely unforgettable! Whether you’re toasting with someone special or hosting an elegant evening with friends, we hope these selections bring a touch of magic to your celebrations.
