If you’re new to sampling these wines, Royal Tokaji is where to look for the gold standard. It was co-founded by wine writer Hugh Johnson and is one of the most admired wineries in Hungary. For me it was extremely dry and not pleasant to drink. I enjoy slightly dry but this took me by suprise for the worst.

Applied Systematic Approach to Tasting as part of WSET training and a strong interest in Furmint wines. Not sure if this wine has just not matured well as a 2021 but I rate this poor. Not balanced, no length , not intense and no complexity. It was very acidic with very few primary notes, mainly lime.

Very disappointed as this is the first Hungarian Royal Tokaj I have tried.

Oaky? This wine is nothing but pure citrus, floral, possibly some white peach. There are no notes to indicate any oak fermentation or maturation. It’s clearly been fermented in stainless steel at controlled cool temperatures.
