The sustainable Mt. Difficulty winery is the most famous producer in Central Otago. Their famed Roaring Meg range came about almost by accident. In 2003, there was leftover fruit from some of their best vineyards. So the winemaking team here saw an opportunity to try out a different style of Pinot Noir. They made a wine which was exceptionally fruity - one which was made to drink young. Roaring Meg was born. And it was such a success, they’ve been making it ever since. This is a real favourite of ours. It's packed with red fruity flavours. Raspberry. Red cherry. A hint of spice. Perfect with glazed ham or rustic duck cassoulet.

I have been very fortunate to have recently spent 4 weeks in New Zealand.
This is a very poor example of Otago Valley pinot noir. Much better wine available from just over £10 in NZ stores

Bursting with red fruits - strawberry, raspberry, red plum but hint of spice from French oak appears. Well balanced between acidity and fruit, and tannins are smooth.

Loved this! Relative over from New Zealand bought this for us as his red of choice. Says something that a ‘local’ would choose this. Easy drinkable red

Really, really, REALLY disappointing. I bought this for Christmas Day and Boxing Day because it was rather more expensive than other Pinot Noirs, but this was just plain ORDINARY and not worth the money spent - really upset

A very good pinot noir indeed - I'm buying more! PS I believe Tim Atkin is wrong - 'Roaring Meg' is a very small hydroelectric station in Central Otago

Strawberry color

Oak aged nose with baked herbs - oregano stands out- and dark berries. Very aromatic on the nose after aerating for 20
