It's made from 30-year-old vines and aged for three years in oak. This brings you an indulgently rich Reserva with plenty of ripe fruit flavour and silk-smooth tannins. It has notes of red fruits, vanilla, liquorice and cinnamon. Perfect with roast chicken and lamb.

I have just opened a bottle of 2010which has been in my store a few years. This is a stunning wine silky smooth soft tannins. I wish I had bought more at the time of purchase. Very fruity with legs on the glass

Mainly excellent but a bit of variability between bottles. Discounts have become smaller and it is now a bit expensive. Increased price (from other sources also) probably due to the 15/16 wine running out. 5 stars at £20 but only 4 stars at £ 28 to £30.

94/100, you really should try this wine, rather than read my inane ramblings.Coffee and oak on the nose. Palate of raspberry, damson, plum and blackcurrant. Long finish of oak and leather. Vibrant acidity and integrated tannins.I will definitely be getting more bottles of this one.

Delicious, smooth and very quaffable. Lighter blend than it’s mature cousin but still with beautiful complex and long finish. Perfect with rich meals but also drinkable on its own. This is definitely my go to.

Just to be clear - I am reviewing the 2016 Reserva - and it is terrific! Finally a Rioja that has retained its character as the quality has improved. This for me is a benchmark Rioja. Can the quality can be kept up over later vintages. Hope so.
