Chenin Blanc from South Africa is world-class. Even though this grape may have originally come from the Loire Valley, this is arguably its finest New World home. There’s even said to be around twice as much Chenin Blanc planted in South Africa as there is in France!

This isn’t just a Chenin Blanc. It’s the Chenin Blanc – made by the country’s top producer of the grape, Ken Forrester. Terre Noire is beautifully textured, packed with gentle white peach and melon flavours, and equipped with a finish that goes on and on. We can’t think of a better match for prawns infused with lime and chilli. Or any kind of seafood for that matter.

Ken Forrester has been growing Chenin Blanc in South Africa for 38 years, so it’s little wonder that he’s considered the master of the grape variety. He began working his craft in Stellenbosch but has more recently branched out into Swartland. Here he’s showing off exactly what breadth this amazing grape variety has.

The Swartland has become the most exciting wine region in South Africa these past few years, second only to long-established Stellenbosch. But where Stellenbosch is best known for its Bordeaux-style red blends and Chardonnay, Swartland is primarily getting attention for its Rhône and Loire-inspired wines.
