Field & Flutter Cinsault, Swartland
While now usually referred to by its French name, Cinsault used to be called Hermitage in South Africa. That’s why Pinotage, which is a cross of Cinsault with Pinot Noir, has the name that it does.

This bottling shows how far South African wine has come in recent decades. Cinsault was the country’s most planted variety in the 1960s and ’70s, when the South African wine scene was more about quantity than quality. But take a sip of this Swartland example, and you’ll see that it’s now all about the taste.

With a history dating back to 1692, Spier has pretty much been here since the beginning of winemaking in South Africa. But it’s got its eye firmly focused on the future too, supporting sustainable-growing methods and mentoring young people in agriculture and winemaking.

In recent decades Swartland has been transformed into one of South Africa’s most exciting winemaking regions. A mix of shale, granite and sandy soils – plus Atlantic breezes – allows a wide variety of grapes to thrive. Many of these are harvested from old vines which have adapted to the hot and dry climate over many years.

This wine will go perfect with Ultimate Peri Peri Chicken
