The critics love Black Pack. It won bronze at the Decanter World Wine Awards and South Africa’s Wine magazine named it one of the top ten Syrahs to drink in 2020. Crack it open and you’ll see what the fuss is all about – pure fruit flavours, mingled with a tickle of black pepper and a proper savoury character. A classic Syrah through and through that really shows South Africa’s prowess with the grape.

Founded in 2005, family-owned Painted Wolf is named after the African wild dog, of which there are fewer than 6,000 left in the world. Owners Emma and Jeremy Borg are fiercely passionate about their conservation and have raised upwards of £50,000 for the species’ protection so far. Every bottle of their wine you buy helps to fund their good work.

Cool Walker Bay makes great Syrah, very much in the Rhône tradition. The maritime climate, influenced by ocean breezes, allows grapes to develop in an elegant way. They ripen more slowly here than inland, building complexity while still retaining freshness.
