Hailing from valley-rich central Le Marche, this Verdicchio shows just why Italian wines are so popular. Structure and elegance meet citrus and peach notes – and a light yeasty kick. Casal Farneto get it just right by harvesting late, in the second half of October, when grape clusters are fully ripe. The result is a fabulous full-bodied white.

About the producer
Family-owned Casal Farneto are true champions of Verdicchio, producing more than a dozen different wines from this local white variety. ‘Gran Casale’ means ‘big farmhouse’ and is a nod to the ancient structure from which the winery was built. They work sustainably and organically over 35 acres, employing modern technology where appropriate. The estate is in the province of Ancona, on the border of two valleys, Valmisa and Vallesina.

About the region
Le Marche is thought to have been producing wine since the Etruscan era around 2,500 years ago. Snaking down from the Apennine Mountains to the Adriatic coast, the flowing Misa River creates constant air movement, ‘aerating’ vineyards, which equals wonderful freshness in your glass.

Food and Wine Pairings
Pair this wine with Claire Thomson’s Rosemary, Salt, & Honey Roasted Almonds. Freshness is key when it comes to appetiser pairings and this zingy Verdicchio has it in abundance. Expect plenty of citrusy flavour that will complement the rosemary and really open your palette.
