'Les Charmes' Pouilly-Fumé

Sauvignon Blanc doesn’t get any more classic. From a 12th-generation winemaker in the prestigious Pouilly-Fumé AOC of the Loire Valley, this aromatic and fresh white has elegant flavours of citrus and flint. Around a quarter of the wine is aged briefly in oak, lending enticing toasty notes to the profile too. A very special bottle indeed.

About the producer
Vincent Chatelain’s family-run estate has been producing some of the finest examples of Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley since 1630. Cultivating 30 hectares of vines across six Pouilly-Fumé villages, he works the land gently alongside his father Jean-Claude, abstaining from weedkillers to protect biodiversity and quality.

About the region
The grapes for this wine come from Vincent’s ‘Champ du Charme’ plot, in the far east of the Loire Valley on the banks of the river. The 25-year-old vines are rooted in a blend of clay-silica and limestone that lends his wines exceptional minerality and a characteristic ‘gun flint’ aroma.

Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine with Jerusalem Artichoke Velouté with Crispy Mushrooms. Green vegetal notes in the wine match well with the earthy flavours of the artichoke, while Sauvignon’s signature zesty acidity keeps balance and freshness.
