'Terroir d'Altitude' Viognier

Fortant | France

'Terroir d'Altitude' Viognier | Wine Club by Majestic

A classic grape of the northern Rhône – Viognier – transplanted to the soils of southern French region Languedoc. Lightly aged in French oak, the buttercup-yellow wine opens to generous, complex aromas of fresh apricot and grapevine flowers. Rich and smooth to sip, it will stand up to a range of dishes.

About the producer
The Skalli family, who have been working in the Mediterranean since the 1920s, pioneered single-variety wines in the south of France. They joined forces with another wine family, the Boissets, in 2011 to create Fortant, a winery focused on cultivating the coasts, hills and mountains of the area in a new vision for the Languedoc.

About the region
Languedoc’s Pays d’Oc is France’s oldest vineyard region, founded in the sixth century by the Greeks. Now arguably France’s most diverse winemaking area, it permits 58 different grape varieties to be used in its IGP wines. Fortant’s vineyards show huge diversity, thanks to a range of soil types, geographical features and climatic conditions in a place where the Mediterranean meets the Massif Central highlands.

Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine with Tray-Baked Monkfish with Savoy Cabbage, Oyster Mushrooms & Mulled Beetroots. This pairs for the same reasons as the Chardonnay; Viognier’s classic bold, fruity flavours balance with the earthy flavours of the dish.
