This gold-medal winning red is a prime example of a ‘Super Tuscan’ – an Italian wine made with a blend of local and international grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon, which is native to France, and local Sangiovese combine to make a complex and elegant pour, flecked with notes of blueberry, blackcurrant, plum and spice. Smooth and round, with dense structure, it’s a wine that gets even better when paired with food.

About the producer
In 1882, Angiolo Piccini founded a small winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico hills. Fast-forward five generations later and Piccini wine is sold in over 90 countries and regularly wins plaudits from the critics.

About the region
Tuscany is the heart of Italian winemaking, home to such lauded DOCGs as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. In the case of this wine, it falls under the broader IGT category for wines made in a more international style as it contains a non-native grape: Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet is grown on well-draining sand and gravel soils in the Maremma, by the sunny coast, which gives it sublime character.

Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine with Porchetta with Chimichurri & Roast Potatoes. Pork and Sangiovese are a longstanding favourite pairing. The tannins in the Collezione Oro balance the fat in the dish, while its fruity flavours stand up to the hint of chilli.
