'Cerro Añon' Rioja DOCa Reserva

This aged red from the celebrated Spanish region of Rioja bagged a gold medal at the esteemed Mundus Vini awards and it’s not difficult to see why. Sweet, ripe cherry, plum and blackberry notes are rippled with a delicate smoky hint. Full-bodied, fresh and fruity, it’s a sublime wine to enjoy with food.

About the producer
Founded in 1973, Bodegas Olarra marry the sense of tradition the Rioja region is known for with active innovation. Now in the third generation, with a trio of young brothers – Pedro, Marcial and Luis Ucín – at the helm, the winery is busy ageing 27,000 oak barrels of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines to perfection in their underground cellars.

About the region
Set along the Ebro River and framed by the Cantabrian Mountains, the north-central Spanish wine region of Rioja is easily the country’s most famous. Three sub-regions – Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja – come with their own distinct profiles, though all are known for growing the traditional red varieties of Tempranillo, Mazuelo (known elsewhere as Carignan) and Graciano.
