It may originally hail from France, but Pinot Noir has been planted in Italy’s mountainous Alto Adige for more than 150 years. This example from celebrated cooperative Cantina Girlan is fruity and fresh, with generous aromas of raspberry and sweet and sour cherries. The lively acidity and juicy finish make it a real winner with food.


About the producer
Founded in 1923, Cantina Girlan is a rare Italian producer focused on Pinot Noir – but clearly, practice makes perfect. Two hundred winegrowing families cultivate 220 hectares in top-quality production sites in the Oltradige and Bassa Atesina subregions, winning awards and exporting to more than 30 countries. Winemaker Gerhard Kofler even grew up right in front of the winery. Little wonder the brand has found so many fans.


About the region
Sourced from three different vineyard sites at altitudes between 360 and 500 metres, the grapes for this wine are handpicked, so only the finest fruit makes it into the bottle. Soils range from calcareous clay to volcanic porphyry, while high-density Guyot training keeps vines performing at their best.
