'St. Ann's' Grenache

Sister's Run | McLaren Vale

Grenache may have its roots in France, but Australia has confidently made the grape its own. The fruit for this wine was picked at the optimum point between juiciness and fresh acidity, then matured in two- and three-year-old puncheons to preserve its vibrancy. Crack it open to aromas of mulberry and blackberry preserves, boiled sweets, spice and thyme. The flavours are just as fruity, with gentle tannins and mouth-filling character.

About the producer
Elena Brooks has always been immersed in the wine world. Born and raised in Bulgaria, she assisted her mother at the vineyard where she worked, and by the time she was 16 she was already crafting her own batches of Chardonnay. Marriage brought her to settle in McLaren Vale, where she runs her independent brands, Dandelion Vineyards and Sister’s Run.

About the region
While it’s only on the other side of Adelaide to the world-famous Barossa, the McLaren Vale region experiences quite a different climate, influenced by the cooling effects of the nearby ocean. Red grapes such as Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon do well here, but the region also produces some lovely whites.

Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine with Honey Soy Duck Breast with Mulled Ginger Spiced Plums. The wine’s fruity flavours contrast with the savoury duck, and again, its notes of spice complement the dish’s cinnamon, clove and star anise.
