John Forrest Albariño | Wine Club by Majestic

New Zealand’s Marlborough region is synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc – but this bottling proves there’s more to it. Winemaker Beth Forrest fell in love with Albariño while working in Spain, and she quickly convinced her father John to plant it in their vineyards in 2011. The result is a wine with vibrant acidity and notes of white peach, pear, apricot and orange zest. Refreshing, full and balanced, it finishes with a hint of drying minerality.


About the producer
In the late 1980s, John and Brigid Forrest decided to trade their careers in science and medicine for winemaking. It was clearly a good decision – they were one of the first family wineries in Marlborough and have now made a name for themselves in both lower-alcohol wines and interesting alternative varieties such as Albariño.


About the region
The country’s largest wine region, with over 20,000 hectares of vines, Marlborough benefits from a dreamy combination of a cool and sunny climate, low rainfall and free-draining soil: the perfect recipe for vibrant wines. The Albariño is planted on Forrest’s hottest site, a complex terroir featuring a touch of clay.
