'Debut' Cabernet-Merlot

A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that shows cool-climate Western Australia has just as much to celebrate as old-world regions like Bordeaux. The two grapes are vinified and aged separately in oak for just under a year before blending, resulting in a medium-weight wine rich in flavours of blackcurrant, spice, plum and cedar.

About the producer
While Margaret River is now an established name on the Aussie winemaking map, it wasn’t so back in 1974. Capel Vale were the very first to plant vines in the area. Still family-owned and managed, they’re now known for producing wines that define the regional profile, with a focus on balance, complexity and elegant fruit.

About the region
Located in the far-flung south-western corner of Australia, remote Margaret River has a markedly maritime climate with plenty of rainfall – in fact, you might even compare it to Bordeaux in a dry year. Cabernet Sauvignon is a typical local variety, and the grapes for this particular wine come from older vines rooted in the region’s characteristic gravelly soils.

Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine with Massaman Lamb Shank Curry. Since the curry is mild, you don’t have to worry about Cabernet’s tannins here. The blend’s bold-fruit flavours keep the pairing balanced.
