'Alfresco' Vermentino

Among the wonderful innovations you’ll find in the Australian wine scene is widespread experimentation with lesser-known varietals – for example, this Vermentino. Originally hailing from Italy, in its Down Under iteration the grape shows gorgeous stone-fruit and citrus-zest notes with refreshing acidity. Just as tasty when enjoyed as a crisp aperitif as it is with fish and seafood dishes.

About the producer
Berton Vineyards was established in 1996 by Bob and Cherie Berton when they purchased a block of land in High Eden, a subregion of the Barossa Valley. After years of growth and partnerships they’ve expanded out of that region and into Riverland in south-eastern Australia. They endeavour to use renewable and recyclable materials wherever possible.

About the region
The Riverland region in south-eastern Australia borders Victoria and New South Wales and has a hot, dry climate tempered by the life-giving properties of the winding Murray River. It excels at ripening a range of grapes, including Vermentino, which thrive in the prevalent heat.
