Krasno Sauvignonasse, Slovenia
Slovenia has a wine tradition stretching back 2,400 years – yet it’s only home to about 0.5% of European vineyards. In recent years its whites especially have really begun to turn critics’ heads. The country, along with neighbouring Croatia, is also getting a name for trendy orange wines – white wines made in the style of red ones.

It’s not Sauvignon Blanc – it’s Sauvignon Vert, also called Sauvignonasse or Friulano. You may have not tried this variety before, but coming from one of our favourite producers, international success story Klet Brda, we think you’ll love it. Sauvignonasse from Slovenia is often described as having a floral aroma.

Owned by 400 local winemaking families since 1957, Klet Brda is committed to sustainable production – so much so that they were the first winery in the world to achieve a prestigious Green Key eco-label. Among other measures, they work hard to encourage biodiversity. Vineyards join a landscape of forests, olive groves and fruit trees, encouraging bees and other pollinators.

Sandwiched between the soaring Italian Alps and warm Mediterranean, hilly Goriška Brda – often called just Brda – might be an unfamiliar name to most wine lovers. But it’s been referred to as the Tuscany of Slovenia and is less than a two-hour drive east of Venice. It’s best known for its white wines, especially the fresh local variety Rebula, which thrives on the area’s steep slopes.

This wine will go perfect with Harry’s Bar Sandwich
