Conejo Verde' Blanc de Blancs, Argentina
With all this altitude to play with, Bodega Los Haroldos doesn’t stop at making still whites: it even produces a sparkling wine. Made with Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrontés, it has balanced acidity – something that wouldn’t be possible in this sun-soaked area without a sky-scraping location.

Argentina might be known for Malbec, but this wine shows what you can do with a bit of added altitude: fabulous white. Meaning ‘Green Rabbit’ in Spanish, Conejo Verde comes from one of Argentina’s star winemaking families, whose other bottlings have won acclaim from the likes of Decanter World Wine Awards and Tim Atkin MW.

If you thought Argentina didn’t have winemaking heritage, consider Bodega Los Haroldos. This is a third-generation family winery, with roots dating to 1939. The Falasco family source their grapes from three different sites, including Uco Valley, before crushing them at their winery in the San Martin sub-region of Mendoza.

Uco Valley is part of Argentina’s wider Mendoza area, a name you may recognise for its affinity with top-quality Malbec. Though red wines are still justifiably most famous in the wider area, the added altitude in parts of Uco – in Bodega Los Haroldos’ case, as much as 1,500m above sea level – makes for delicious white wines.

This wine will go perfect with Pork Chops & Sweetheart Cabbage with Hazelnut Butter
