Though Italian Pinot Grigio might be the classic pour, Vinaria din Vale shows that lesser-known winemaking country Moldova can also do the grape in style. Lime, lemon, pear and nectarine notes are joined by a refreshing rush of acidity. Equally tasty when cracked open on its own or served with food.

About the producer
It’s easy to think of Moldova as a New World wine country, but Vinaria din Vale can trace its roots back to 1920, when the current owner’s grandfather farmed 18 hectares of vineyard in the nation’s south. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the company began to thrive, and today the family-owned business has 1,850 hectares producing both still and sparkling wines.

About the region
Vinaria din Vale’s vineyards are in southern Moldova, where a temperate-continental climate is influenced by the Black Sea. Grapes ripen with nuance and complexity, thanks to the mixture of temperature and clay-sand soils with marine sediments. The winery is set next to Lake Beleu, one of the country’s largest natural lakes.
