The term ‘Old World’ is usually applied to wines that hail from Europe. The continent has a winemaking history dating back thousands of years, though the very earliest examples of wine came from modern day Iran and Georgia. Along with their roads, the Romans established vines wherever they went, and wine became ingrained in the culture of many areas of Europe. These days, France, Italy and Spain are amongst the most popular countries of the Old World, with the regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chianti and Rioja being just a few of our favourite classics.
