SOLAIRE CULTURE from Veuve Clicquot, celebrating the Maison’s 250th anniversary

Explore the world of wine through the eyes of Veuve Clicquot. This blog is their creation, showcasing their expertise and passion as dedicated winemakers.

In Short:
For 250 years Veuve Clicquot has remained faithful to its motto: "One quality, the finest"

Founded in 1772 in Reims, France, champagne house Veuve Clicquot colours life with audacity. More than champagne, Veuve Clicquot is an attitude that sparkles with joie de vivre, embodied by the House’s signature sunburst yellow colour. It all started with Madame Clicquot’s surprising start as head of the House of Clicquot at just 27 years old in 1805. Her life was defined by her audacious, courageous choices, such as shipping her excellent champagne around the world, and her inventive spirit, which led to many innovative “firsts” in Champagne. Not to mention her joyful dedication to celebration and living life to the fullest! Her passion, vision and innate sense of French art de vivre live on today in the House that bears her name spreads delight through its remarkable Champagne range, including the iconic Yellow Label and its joyful experiences around the world.

Today, year after year, Didier Mariotti, the 11th cellar master of the House, continues to offer a range of exceptional wines that have made the reputation of Veuve Clicquot. The Maison’s ode to joy and optimism is embodied by its iconic yellow, the colour of the rising sun that has graced the champagne’s labels since 1877. Throughout 2022, Veuve Clicquot is celebrating this Solaire Culture infused with joy and bright optimism, having unveiled an exciting agenda of initiatives.

The shining light of these initiatives; the Solaire Culture exhibition, which opened on June 16th, 2022, at the Jing in Tokyo, travelling to Los Angeles and then to London Piccadilly Circus earlier this summer. It shined a light on Veuve Clicquot’s 250 years of legacy, savoir-faire, and culture. Based on a long tradition of innovation and creativity, the Maison has established a dialogue between its legacy and the resolutely contemporary vision of Camille Morineau, and Constance Guisset. Conceived as an experience, and appealing to all the senses, this journey into two-and-a-half centuries of “Clicquot Culture” celebrated creativity, optimism, and boldness, arriving in the present day with striking contemporary artworks specially commissioned for the exhibition.

Solaire Culture was also a 100% female-led exhibition. To express Veuve Clicquot’s heritage in a contemporary form, and as a tribute to Madame Clicquot’s audacity, Camille Morineau brought 10 bold and renowned female artists together for the first time, including the iconic Yayoi Kusama and manga artist Moyoco Anno, but also Inès Longevial, Tacita Dean, Cece Philips, Rosie McGuinness, Pénélope Bagieu, Olimpia Zagnoli, Sheila Hicks and Monique Frydman. Each one was given carte blanche and delivered an original artwork inspired by Madame Clicquot and her inventions, which have revolutionized the world of champagne.
