Marqués de Riscal made Rioja what it is today. Up until the 1850s the locals had made only light, young wines. Then, in 1858, Riscal introduced the ‘Bordeaux method’, barrel ageing. From that moment on, the practice became integral to Rioja. Today, Riscal Reserva is one of the most famous wines in Spain. Each grape is selected from vines that are at least 50 years old. Mature vines make the tastiest grapes. So the wine is incredibly rich and concentrated. It’s full of summer-berry flavours and notes of liquorice and vanilla spice. Perfect with Jamón.

Dreadful very earthy unappetising taste. Did wonder if it was corked, but at least it was only a half bottle!

Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva 2017/18 Half Bottle: Very disappointed with this wine. As for " So the wine is incredibly rich and concentrated. It’s full of summer-berry flavours and notes of liquorice and vanilla spice", well all I can say is mine tasted of old dry earth with a somewhat metallic after taste. Tried it with a pork dish and then some strong cheeses. Just as bad with both.

This wine is heavy and expensive for a half bottle.. Would not recommend.

All half bottles cost more than a full bottle.... Oh and it's a Rioja which the last time I looked is known for its full bodied structure, tannins, and savoury taste. If you don't like Rioja, may I recommend Lambrusco or a Pinot Noir.

spicy vanilla notes and a bit of acid too. really good value and tastes far smoother than you'd expect for a relatively young rioja. Purchased a few half bottles for midweek but back to stock up on some full bottes now

This isa Great wine. I'm delighted that they stock the 2016. I guess the full bottle i less than buying two halves but you dont always want a full bottle & it's god enough value not t matter. If you are not familiar with thsi wine, just drink it & see.
