No Spanish wine can match the icon status of Rioja. Rioja Alta is the epitome of tradition with their mellow, savoury wines and history stretching back to 1890. They’ve crafted this for us at their base in Haro, where winemaker Julio Sáenz has been working his magic for over 20 years using a mix of cutting-edge technology and hand-harvested Tempranillo grapes grown 500 metres above sea level. Aged for two years in American oak barriques and longer in bottle to earn a Reserva classification, the wine has intense aromas of strawberry, raspberry and cherry, as well as vanilla, coffee and hazelnut notes. Crack it open with grilled lamb chops or aubergine.

Our bins hold 18-24 bottles of wine or Champagne or 2-3 cases of lager when filled with ice and water. Drinks will be chilled in 30-45 minutes and will be kept cold for several hours, especially if kept in the shade.
We can also sell the ice to go in a chiller bin, or have it arrive separately - simply contact your local store after placing your order.

Good news. The email saying Majestic had listened to feedback, agreed the quality had dropped and had addressed the issue is true!! The 2021 definition is a return to the original quality. Good work Majestic, but please don't try to drop the quality again

Oh Majestic what have you done!? Used to be a fabulous hiddeng gem of an old school Rioja that brought me back to Majestic. But the latest version is completely different, as in completely worse. I am so dissapointed. Note Majestic my orders have dried up

Thank you for your feedback — you were right. We've recalled the wine and returned it to the supplier. We've since selected the 2021 vintage as a replacement — a classic Rioja Reserva we're proud of and confident meets our quality standards.

The wine is objectively a three stars for the price, but I am giving two because it is way worse than it used to be, since the revamp. It used to be an hidden gem, I became a good client of Majestic because of this, but now I truly feel betrayed.

Awful. We drank this all the time. Waste have they done to it.I ordered 24 bottles and will be returning 23 bottles.

Like everyone else had already mentioned, the wine since the revamp is completely different and for me personally, completely agree unpalatable. I was also told by Majestic head office that nobody else had reported this issue, looking at the reviews, this is just not true. This used to be my favourite wine and now in my opinion, a cheaper Faustino is better. Extremely disappointing.

Couldn't agree more with Simon's comments below - completely different to the previous version. I raised the issue at my local store, but apparently nobody else had mentioned it, so I thought it must just be me. Still okay, but nowhere near as good

What happened? I bought this as a 2018 vintage before and it was a good, solid, Rioja Reserva. Having run out I bought another 6 bottles and noticed the label had changed / been updated, the wine inside the bottle was totally unrecognisable from my previous purchase; the colour was lighter, the fruit less concentrated and plush and there was now an odd tar type taste. All in all really quite unpleasant, what a pity.

I would like to pile on here and say this is sadly a very disappointing wine from La Rioja Alta. I was expecting something vaguely resembling their Viña Alberdi which is a stunning wine for under £20. This is substantially worse, albeit objectively ok.

Not the same as the earlier vintages and I'm devastated. Fairly standard Rioja, no more/less than you'd expect for £10-12. Previous bottlings (before the Definition branding was updated) were spectacular. I'll try something else next time.
