Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Château Haut Gravet | France

Majestic

One sip of this gold-medal-winning wine and you’ll see why people go wild for Bordeaux. With opulent aromas of red and black fruits and ripe tannins, it’s complex, rich and elegant – and a real taste of the terroir. But that’s what you get from a family with more than 200 years of experience in making Saint-Émilion wines.

About the producer
Set at the foot of the hillside of Saint-Émilion, Château Haut Gravet was purchased by Alain and Bernadette Aubert in 1987. Their family has been making wine for more than two centuries and they still maintain the traditional grand-cru production methods, ageing in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months. Next generation Cécile and Amélie have joined the team, working across the family’s numerous Bordeaux estates including grand-cru-classé Château La Couspaude.

About the region
With rolling vineyards and medieval architecture, UNESCO-listed Saint-Émilion isn’t just one of the prettiest wine villages in France, but one of the prettiest in the world. Unlike many other parts of Bordeaux, it is Merlot – rather than Cabernet Sauvignon – that dominates blends here. The Dordogne River, together with a system of valleys and the nearby Atlantic Ocean, moderates the area’s climate.

Food and Wine Pairings
Pair this wine with Claire Thomson’s Cheese EmpanadasA wine with plenty of fruity flavour makes an excellent pairing for cheese. This Saint-Émilion also has ripe, round tannins that flatter the crisp, flaky pastry.
