About the producer
Family-owned Chozas Carrascal was founded in 1990 as a passion project of Julián López and María José Peidro, both keen to revitalise the area. After 10 years of research they went fully organic and now, under the stewardship of their children, Maria and Julian López-Peidro, the winery is a stalwart of sustainable viticulture. As well as grapes, they encourage the growth of holm oaks, thyme and lavender to aid biodiversity.



About the region
It might not have the following of world-famous Rioja, but Utiel-Requena in Valencia is one to watch. Its natural traits – high-altitudes, Mediterranean climate, protective natural barriers – make this pocket between the Turia and Cabriel rivers well-adapted to organic farming. The local favourite is the Bobal grape, mostly from old vines. But this delicious Syrah-Garnacha blend shows the region’s got more than one trick up its sleeve.
