Colin joined the team here at Stevenage nearly three years ago and has fast become the resident ‘red’ oracle. Colin is a true professor of the wine industry and his passion for it that simply ‘pours’ out. He is as comfortable purring over a sumptuous Shiraz as he is when he is helping you unearth your own ‘new found favourites’. With Colin, it's not all about reds, he endeavours to locate a truly stunning Gavi that is guaranteed to please all, but will always select a white Burgundy that will deliver on all expectations.
Like a seductively chilled Vinho Verde, Alex originates from Portugal, meaning that whilst his knowledge of the Portugese classics is second to none, he keeps a very varied palate. Alex is a true ambassador of the classic heavy reds and enjoys nothing more than a smooth warming Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, but with Alex and much like all good wine-lovers it is not all about the body, a nice velvet rich Rioja Reservá is what he calls a ‘cellar must have’ will often be seen swilling around his glass. With Alex, the climate and heat matters, which lead him to his other love, a beautifully chilled Rosé which will complete any occasion that the sunshine joins, and he will always be on hand to find you a ‘blushing salmon’ pink, who knows, he may even find you an ‘Angel’.
Neil-Rhys is the Store Manager, where he has been for the past three years. When it comes to wines, he loves nothing more than big, bold powerhouse 'best-foot-forward' styles ranging from the debonair Valpolicella's right through to the sublime 'Stateside Cabernet Sauvignon, he relishes nothing more than a zesty Sauvignon Blanc (always has to be a Kiwi - his words), but remains partial to a cheeky South African Viognier, what’s not to love. With an extensive background in both hospitality and mixology that spans over twenty years, it is fair to say that Neil-Rhys will not just help you discover that perfect wine for that perfect occasion, he’ll also take you on an ‘old fashioned’ tour of ‘Manhattan’.
Calum joins the Stevenage team and brings a wealth of experience within the wine world and industry. More often than not, Calum will pick a chilled white American powerhouse, which should lead you to only one, the classic Oaked Chardonnay, which he explained needs two things, great food and brilliant company for that perfect pour. When it comes to reds, Calum will embrace a wider spectrum ranging from a delicate French Burgundy to a tannin-rich Amarone, however away from the classics he will often go 'Greek' and maintains that Greece will always be one of the wine worlds 'best kept secret'. Away from wines, Calum is our in-house beer specialist and likes nothing more than seeing our range grow (sampling, it is a dirty job, but we guess somebody needs to do it) and is always partial to a smooth single malt Speyside Scotch.
