We've got our last week of 25% ALL Rioja and selected Sauvignon Blanc (until 22nd November) and we've cracked open some great wines to taste!

Domaine Fouassier 'La Garenne' Sancerre 2019

Brothers Benoit and Paul create their Sancerre organically and biodynamically. All this attention to detail means this is incredibly well made. It’s an elegant wine with notes of green apple, citrus, cream and freshly cut grass and a fresh finish.

Saint Clair 'Pioneer Block 25' Sauvignon Blanc 2020, Wairau Valley

Saint Clair have been growing grapes since the 1970s, so they really know the region inside out. They decided to put this knowledge to good use, creating single vineyard – ‘block’ – wines which are expressive of their particular patch. This Sauvignon is one of them. Because it’s so selective, they only make it in the very best vintages. It’s worth the wait. It really bursts with that classic Marlborough fruit – think passionfruit, gooseberry and freshly cut grass. Bright. Fruity. Intensely refreshing.

£14.99 Mix Any Six

Domaine la Troupe ‘Cuvée Marie’ Viré Clessé 2020

Viré Clessé was officially named an appellation just over 20 years ago. Because of its relative youth, its wines are still great value. This one is made there by Domaine la Troupe, which has more than 80 years experience in creating Burgundy Chardonnay. The grapes behind it come from a small, five-hectare vineyard on a hillside that's exposed to the rising sun. The perfect setting for ripe, decadent flavour. Expect notes of stone fruits, honey and vanilla.

Definition Rioja Reserva 2016

La Rioja Alta is the definition of a traditional Rioja producer. It’s still run by descendants of the five founders and prides itself on its traditional style – so commissioning our Definition Rioja from them was a no-brainer. They employ their own cooper to make barrels, every single grape is picked by hand – the wines are even hand-racked by candlelight in the cathedral-like cellars beneath Haro’s cobbled streets. It’s a sophisticated wine with notes of red fruit, coconut and vanilla spice, and a really silky texture. As all Riojans know, its inviting aromatics make it a fantastic complement for slow-roasted lamb shoulder.

£10.49 Mix Any Six

Muga Rioja Reserva 2017

Muga Rioja Reserva is a real classic. It’s a masterclass in oak ageing, spending 36 months in oak before further resting in the bottle. The oak gives it a fantastic structure. Combined with supple, ripe tannins, it’ll easily last for a decade – but it's delicious now. Its flavours are richly complex. Think blackberry, vanilla, coffee and a hint of spice. It’s smooth, mellow and delicious with rack of lamb.

£14.99 Mix Any Six

Château de Pennautier 'Esprit de Pennautier’

A blend of old-vine Syrah with Bordeaux varieties, grown on south-facing slopes and one of the finest examples of the robust Cabardès style. A powerful nose of black fruits and full bodied.

We've got 25% off ALL RIoja and 25% off selected Sauvignon Blanc for the next two weeks when you Mix Any SIx! These offers run until 22nd November alongside the rest of our monthly offers. And we've open some cracking wines this week!

On the Tasting Counter this week!

Lone Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2021

The Gabb family is one of the UK's finest winemaking exports. Ever since moving to their Schapenberg Hill winery in the 1990s, they have been producing top-quality bottles while tackling ethical and environmental projects. In recent years they’ve converted to solar power, become Fairtrade-certified, embraced sustainable farming and launched a foundation to provide meals to the local community. And their Sauvignon Blanc is fantastic. This is crisp and fresh, with flavours of passionfruit, green apple and kiwi.

£8.99 Mix Any SIx

J. Bouchon 'Block Series' Semillon 2019

his Semillon comes from two select plots in one of the Maule Valley's coolest spots. The 80-year-old vines here are cooled Pacific Ocean breezes, giving the wine a distinct freshness. Expect aromas of ripe lemon and orange peel, with a silky texture and crisp finish.

£12.99 Mix Any Six

Rupert and Rothschild 'Baroness Nadine' Chardonnay 2019

This is a collaboration of two of the wine world's big family names, Rupert and Rothschild. It's a creamy, delicate Chardonnay, with flavours of lemon blossom, kiwi, grapefruit and nougat.

£19.99 Mix Any Six

Parcel Series Saint-Julien 2019

This was made in a fantastic vintage by a highly respected estate in Saint-Julien, the Left Bank appellation that's home to some of the finest chateaux in Bordeaux. It's classically rich and full-bodied with flavours of blackcurrant, black cherry and spice. Perfect with a wild mushroom and truffle risotto. Decanter's Amy Wislocki called it “a genuine steal at the price” and gave it 92 points.

£24.99 Mix Any Six

La Rioja Alta 'Finca Martelo' Rioja Reserva 2014

La Rioja Alta are one of the biggest names in Rioja. They craft this only in perfect vintages. In fact, this is the second ever made. The vines on the Torre de Oña estate are 80-year-old. This maturity means a fuller, riper style of Tempranillo. Throw in more than two years of ageing in oak, and you've got hedonistic flavours of raspberry, blackcurrant, cherry, chocolate and vanilla. It scored 94 Parker Points.

£20.99 Mix Any Six

£20.99 Mix Any Six

LFE 900 Single-Vineyard 2016

This wine is a blend of Syrah, Petite Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. All are sourced from the same high-altitude vineyard in Colchagua Valley, which enjoys average temperatures 3oC lower than in the valley floor, producing intensely flavoured, slow-ripened grapes. As a result the wine is a symphony of ripe, dense black fruit flavour, structured by muscular yet velvety tannins.

We've gone for an all Burgundy affair this week on the Tasting Counter, more specifically we're having delving into the wines of Louis Latour!

Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny 2020

Latour is one of the most famous houses Burgundy. Honeyed. Peachy. Crisp. A dream with salty finger foods or a classic Sunday roast chicken. It’s proof that sometimes it pays to stick with the old favourites.

£12.99 Mix Any Six

Louis Latour 'La Grande Roche' Montagny Premier Cru 2020

Louis Latour is one of Burgundy’s best-known names, and you can expect great things from this Chardonnay made from Premier Cru vineyards in Montagny. With generous floral and white-fruit notes, it balances flavour and freshness alongside a slightly salty finish. It’s a perfect example of how food-friendly white Burgundian wines are. You could match it with everything from asparagus and sheep’s cheese to grilled fish.

£18.99 Mix Any Six

Louis Latour Santenay Blanc 2018

Santenay is best-known for its Pinot Noir. In fact, just 5% of the region's wine is white. But what little there is tastes fantastic. This one is made by Louis Latour, one of Burgundy's biggest names. As Santenay is the most southerly village in the Côte de Beaune, it benefits from a warmer climate. As a result, the wine is ripe and pronounced. An excellent alternative to the more expensive nearby regions, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. This pale-golden wine has flavours of pears, peaches and dried fruits and a long finish. Its subtle-yet-rounded character makes a great match for shellfish.

£26.99 Mix Any Six

Louis Latour Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2020

Wine has been made in the Bourgogne for nearly two millennia, and Pinot Noir has been made here since the twelfth century. Pinot’s a really sensitive grape – it reflects the tiniest of variations in the soil or exposure – and it really loves the limestone soils of Burgundy. Suffice to say, over the centuries, Pinot and the Bourgogne have become so intertwined, from here it’s as close to perfect as the wine can get. Louis Latour are similarly a Burgundian institution – the label to look to for reliably high-quality wines. This Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a case in point. Bright. Fresh. Savoury. It’s full of those red cherry, raspberry flavours which are textbook Pinot. And because it’s not from a designated appellation, it’s a complete steal for the quality. With a rack of lamb, it’ll sing.

£14.99 Mix Any Six

Louis Latour Marsannay 2019

With rich iron soils, Marsannay is where you'll find powerful, robust Pinot Noir at a fraction of the price of those next door in Gevrey-Chambertin. Louis Latour. Arguably the biggest name in Burgundy, ages its expression for up to a year in stainless steel, crafting a muscular palate of red fruit and leather and perfectly integrated tannins.

We’re always super excited for new wines but when we can fill the Tasting Counter with them it’s even better!

And what a line up of classics. From Chablis to Pouilly-Fumé and an unbelievable new Riesling, these are going to be easy recommendations for those special bottles as the festive season gets closer!

The Parcel Series Margaux is back! This sold out before December last year and we’ve cracked it open this weekend. Louis Latour have taken their winemaking skills to the South of France which means their Valmoissine Pinot Noir has all their finesse but for a remarkable price. And we’ve got a new organic Nero d’Avola and it’s open to try! The perfect autumnal grape as the evenings get a little colder.

We’ve got a few days left on our Champagne offer with 25% off when you Mix Any Six bottles of wine or Champagne until 1st November! The perfect time to stock up on your favourite bottles and gifts for friends and clients.

Come and see us this weekend!

Definition Pinot Grigio 2020

Our buyers headed to north-eastern Italy, where the vineyards reach into the cool Alpine foothills. They worked with a family winery which has generations-old relationships with the region’s best growers, taking grapes from both Friuli and Veneto. It means we have the pick of the crop – choosing grapes which are fragrant but incredibly fresh. Lime. Lemon. White peach. It’s got all the citrusy zing and freshness you’d get from squeezing a lemon. It's ideal with fresh fish or as a crisp glassful on its own.

£6.99 Mix Any Six (until 25th October)

Roberto Sarotto 'Campo dell'Olio' Gavi di Gavi 2020

The Sarotto family settled in Piedmont in the 1700s, and Roberto is the latest generation to turn his hand to this historic winemaking region. This is his interpretation of the region's iconic white wine, known as The Chablis of Italy, Gavi di Gavi. It's made from 100% Cortese grapes on a 2-hectare vineyard and went through a long, cool fermentation process to draw out the grape's signature aromatics. Add a further three months resting on lees, and you're in for a seriously textured wine. Expect floral notes, with hints of pineapple, apricot and peach.

£14.99 Mix Any Six

AltoLandon ‘Dulce Enero’ Ice Wine 2020 50cl, Manchuela

Ice wine is just as interesting and exciting as it sounds. To make it, grapes are frozen on the vine to concentrate the natural sugars, so when they're pressed, they create a lusciously sweet wine. And this is rumoured to be the only ice wine made in Spain. You might think that the country is too warm for freezing grapes. But this winery is the highest in mainland Spain, 1100 metres above sea level. Expect intense notes of apricot, tropical fruit, citrus and spice. Serve it cold as an apéritif or to accompany strong cheeses.

£16.99 Mix Any Six

Mâcon Rouge 'Les Roches Rouges' 2020 Louis Jadot

This wine is sourced from several vineyard sites to create a light and supple blend of around 80% Gamay and 20% Pinot Noir. An enticing nose showing subtle hints of redcurrant and raspberry, with a fruity, well-balanced palate and a fresh finish. Best consumed while fresh and young, making the perfect red for white meat.

£11.99 Mix any Six

Barbaresco Riserva 'Currà' 2015 Roberto Sarotto

The wine here is made from the Nebbiolo grape, but typically aged for a shorter period than Barolo. The pioneering family behind Roberto Sarotto make it on a single vineyard called Currà. It's complex, refined and smooth, with hints of roses, violet, plum, liquorice and chocolate.

£25.99 Mix Any Six

Rioja Gran Reserva 2012 Marqués de Cáceres

This is the Gran Reserva Rioja fit for your finest occasions. But it's only through strenuous hand-harvesting at as high as 650 metres above sea level that such delicious notes of roasted coffee, plum and strawberry are possible. Throw in more than two years of ageing in expensive oak barrels, and that resulting slather of vanilla - and it's you've got a truly decadent red.
