Celebrate International Rosé Day with a glass of your favourite blush.

Did you know that rosé has its own day of recognition? International Rosé Day falls annually on the 27th of June. Just a few days after the official start of summer, there couldn’t be a better time to celebrate the unofficial drink of the season, with a glass of your favourite pale pink blush.

While some people sip rosé all year round, others only reach for it when the garden furniture is out and the sun is shining. It’s easy-drinking, refreshingly light, and incredibly versatile. Dry or fruity, sparkling or still, there’s a rosé for pretty much every occasion.

Rosé may feel like it only had a boom over the last 10 years, but it’s actually one of the oldest styles of wine around. Evidence suggests that early wines across the Mediterranean, including those in Greece and the Roman Empire, were light-coloured, similar to today's rosé wines.

It wasn’t until the 1970s that rosé truly started gaining recognition, thanks to the South of France mastering the art of the perfect blush. Then, when the Côtes de Provence AOP was established in 1977, there was no going back - rosé was officially put on the map!

So, whether you prefer the elegance of a Provençal rosé, the sun-kissed vibrancy of a Californian blush, or a fizzy and fun sparkling rosé, here are our top wines to celebrate International Rosé Day with.

10 wines to celebrate International Rose Day

Mythral Rosé, Côtes de Provence

This is an exclusive blend created by Majestic’s rosé buyer, Matt Fowkes and winemaker Noémie Delavigne. With its light, elegant and aromatic profile, Mythral is everything you want a Provence rosé to be. Winemaker Noémie Delavigne trained in Champagne and has worked in France’s finest wine regions, now crafting this enchanting bottling with zippy flavours of red berries, white peach and citrus with a mineral finish.

Roseblood d'Estoublon, Coteaux Varois en Provence

Château d’Estoublon have been making revered wines for over 500 years. Based in the heart of Provence, their hillside vineyards have been farmed organically since 1999 out of respect for their picturesque surroundings. Discover notes of zesty citrus, apricot, strawberry and peony, plus an elegant minerality. Enjoy it with light Mediterranean-style dishes like tomato confit or beef carpaccio.

Caves d'Esclans 'Whispering Angel' Rosé, Côtes de Provence

Winemaker Sacha Lachine is a master of the art of rosé. In 2006, he took over Caves d'Esclans with a vision to create some of the world's greatest wines. This iconic wine has a wealth of awards behind it, and it's clear to see why. It has fresh notes of apple, pink grapefruit, peach and cream, and a long, smooth finish. Perfect with smoked salmon.

Graham Beck Brut Rosé, South Africa

Since being founded in 1983, Graham Beck winery has won countless awards for producing some of South Africa’s finest sparkling wines – some of which have been sipped by the likes of Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama. This Brut Rosé is made using the same laborious method as Champagne. But because it's from South Africa, you pay a fraction of the price. Elegant. Fruity. Fresh. Expect creamy red-fruit aromas, a rich mousse and a brioche-laden finish.

LB7 Rosé, Lisbon

In Lisbon, there’s only one place to watch the sun go down – one of the viewpoints capping the seven cinematic hillsides which surround the city. With a night on the cobbles awaiting you, this fresh and fruity rosé was made with these moments in mind. It’s a blend of Portugal’s native grapes, and is as dry and refreshing as any Provençal pink. Expect flavours of strawberries, raspberries and peaches, with a deliciously creamy finish. Perfect with salty almonds or olives on a balmy evening.

The Guv'nor Rosé, Spain

The Guv'nor red is one of our best-ever-selling wines. True to form, this pink sibling also breaks the region and rule-based restrictions to bring you plenty of flavour at great value. It's a blend of Garnacha, Bobal and Tempranillo grapes. Each of these varieties comes from a different area and has a unique identity. Bring them all together, and you get something truly remarkable.

Devaux 'Oeil de Perdrix' Brut Rosé Champagne

Winemaker Michel Parisot’s approach to traditional fizz is decidedly unconventional. Michel is all about maximum flavour, only using the first press of the grapes, guaranteeing freshness. The wine is then aged for a minimum of four years, far longer than the required 30 months. The result is a rosé Champagne which punches well above its price point. Expect moreish flavours of redcurrant and raspberry. Although it's dry in style, the creamy texture is perfect with fruity puddings.

Beato Bartolomeo Pinot Grigio Rosato, Delle Venezie

The Alpine foothills tumble down into the Veneto in North-Eastern Italy. It’s here you’ll find the tiny Breganze DOC. It’s so small that the region’s 700 growers have formed a single cooperative: Beato Bartolomeo Breganze. They make so little of this delicious rosé that we buy everything they make. It’s incredibly bright and fruity with really delicate flavours. Peach. Apricot. Raspberry. It’s delicious with light salads.

The Ned Rosé

Brent Marris spent his youth exploring the area surrounding The Ned mountain, one of Marlborough’s most famous peaks. It sits in the Waihopai Valley, and, knowing the land inside out, it’s here Brent founded his winery, Marisco Vineyards. A blend of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, the grapes are pressed gently to ensure a light colour and an elegant, refreshing sip. It's creamy yet remarkably crisp, with notes of rosewater, ripe summer fruits and citrus.

Balfour '1503' Rosé, Kent

This English sparkling rosé has been made using the traditional sparkling wine production method used in France. The grapes are grown on the Hush Heath Estate near Tonbridge in Kent. The estate dates from 1503 and is the home of the Balfour-Lynn family. A delicate and inviting rose petal pink, with a finely beaded sparkle. A lively pink grapefruit character is accented with defined notes of wild strawberry and a subtle herbaceousness.
