Majestic Summer Spirit Favourites

In Short:

If you’re looking for new cocktail recommendations or recipes to your favourites, we’ve got you covered with everything from classic spritz combinations to something for the gin fans with our top picks for summer spirits.

Summer’s just begun and to get the celebrations fully underway, there’s nothing better than seeing in the weekend with a garden spritz or a classic Pimm’s cup. If you’re a lover of cocktails or looking for recipe inspiration, you’re guaranteed to find something you like in our comprehensive list of suggestions.

Cocktails for summer sports

With the games kicking off at the end of next month and the tennis in full swing, there are plenty of great cocktail options you can mix up to watch all your favourite sporting events. Although traditionally an Italian summer drink, an Aperol Spritz is sure to make you feel like you’re watching along in the Mediterranean. Full of orange and herb flavours, it is the perfect addition to your favourite Prosecco. If you’re not an Aperol fan there are lots of substitutions you can try. For fans of an extra bitter kick, a Campari Spritz is akin to Aperol’s older sibling, stronger and therefore a little less approachable but with an intense flavour loved by those who enjoy a bitter cocktail.

If you favour something a little more lemony over orange and herb flavours, why not go for a Limoncello Spritz option. Slightly sweeter but still just as refreshing, you can’t go wrong with a lemon and Prosecco combination. Struggling to make a decision? Try our Prosecco Party Cocktail kit which includes everything you need to make a range of prosecco based cocktails including all our above selections. Whatever your decision, find your go to spritz recipe listed below.

Aperol or Campari Spritz

  1. Fill a large wine glass with ice
  2. Add 75ml of Prosecco
  3. Add 50ml of Aperol or Campari
  4. Top up with 25ml of soda water
  5. Garnish with a slice of orange

Limoncello Spritz

  1. Fill a large wine glass with ice

  4. Top up with 25ml of soda water

If you’d rather follow along with tennis, a Pimm’s Cup is an iconic British summer staple and your ideal match partner. There’s no better drink to pair with strawberries and cream and you can always mix and match your fruit choices to suit your tastes and what you have available. Alternatively, the Cotswold Summer Cup is a less known but no less delicious option. Made from Oloroso, sweet Pedro Ximénez sherries and award-winning gin, its fruity flavour makes for a deliciously summery drink when mixed with lemonade or ginger ale. We’ve included easy to follow recipes for both to get you started.

Pimms Cup

  1. Fill a jug with ice
  2. Add 1 part Pimm’s No.1
  3. Add 3 parts lemonade and stir
  4. Finish with slices of strawberry, cucumber, orange and mint

For fans of Gin

If you’d rather go for the classics we have some fantastic gin options for a simple but tasty tonic. Tarquin’s Cornish Gin is one to try for something fresh and aromatic, just serve it up with tonic, a fresh slice of grapefruit and some rosemary for an elevated touch. Salcome gin is another great option, if you like spiced notes like juniper, and citrus spice from English coriander seed. Its sister gin, Salcome rosé, is the ideal option on a warm day and is one of only two pink gins in the world to have been awarded Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Sipsmith London Dry Gin

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice
  2. Add 50ml of Sipsmith London Dry Gin
  3. Top up with 100ml of Fever Tree Tonic Water
  4. Garnish with a twist of fresh lime

Rhubarb Sharing Spritz

  1. To a carafe or jug, add 125ml of Sipsmith London Dry Gin, lemon juice and honey, and stir well until the honey is combined

  3. Pour into four glasses, top with chilled Prosecco and garnish with strawberries
  4. Sip and enjoy with friends!

It has lovely fresh green apple flavours that go wonderfully with ginger ale, mint and lime to make up a Calvados mule cocktail.
