I started off at majestic not knowing about wine. 10 years later I have been fortunate enough to visit most of the main growing regions around the world. My Favourites are Rioja, Bordeaux and a great bottle of white Burgundy but will just about drink anything.

I've worked for Majestic for just over three years now, starting off at the Colchester store before moving to Sudbury. I've always been interested in wine and was fortunate to grow up in one of Australia's best cool climate regions so I'm pretty partial to a good bottle of Aussie wine, but I do love a bit of white Burgundy or some of the wines coming out of California.
Jenni Sales Assistant
Having lived in South Africa for many years I can certainly recommend a few fantastic wines and producers from here. Otherwise, you'll find me enjoying a chilled glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Katie G Sales Assistant
My time at Majestic has meant I've been lucky enough to taste a lot of wines - and visit a few wineries. If I could only drink only style of wine, well it would have to be sparkling wine. Champagne, English sparkling wine, Cava, Cremant. There's plenty of choice - and if you need any recommendations I have a list of them.

Your feedback and comments are really important to us and help your fellow wine lovers too. We'll always pop your name next to your post to show that it's genuine.

What's hot for summer? Miraval Rose at £14.99, Villemarin Picpoul at £7.49 and Definition Pinot Grigio at £6.99.

MIRAVAL ROSE: Miraval shot to fame when the estate was purchased by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Its winemaking is now done under the guidance of the Perrin family, one of the most celebrated family producers in the Rhône Valley, and a previous vintage has been named the best rosé in the world by Wine Spectator Magazine. This is a fresh, elegant rosé, with flavours of redcurrant and citrus, mineral and saline notes and a long, intense finish.

VILLEMARIN PICPOUL: From Picpoul de Pinet AOC, a protected area in the Languedoc. Mouth-wateringly crisp and refreshing, this Picpoul is a real customer favourite. Pair with fish for a delicious summer lunch.

DEFINITION PINOT GRIGIO: As one of the UK’s most popular wine styles it was a no-brainer to add a delicious Italian Pinot Grigio to our Definition range. Lime, lemon and white peach with a zippy acidity. This wine is fantastic value for money.

Step into spring with our pick of French wines and save yourself 33%.

* The Lion & Lily Rose, Bordeaux, £9.99 *
There’s more to Bordeaux than claret. If you like refreshing, fruity and aromatic rosé, it pays to try something different here. This is made purely from Merlot grapes with a unique approach by the biggest rosé producer in the region. It really sets the bar for Bordeaux pink. It’s light and fruity, with notes of red fruits, a long, aromatic finish and a fresh minerality.

* Jas des Vignes Rosé, IGP Méditerranée, £7.99 *
This dry, fruity has its roots in the IGP Méditerranée region, which encompasses Provence and parts of the Rhône valley (and gives the pioneering winemaker plenty of choice). As a result, this is a Provence-style rosé at a snip of the usual asking price.

* Cave de Lugny 'Reserve' Mâcon-Chardonnay, Burgundy, £9.99 *
Cave de Lugny are a true specialist – and they’re determined to prove that classic Burgundy doesn’t have to be boring or expensive. This wine is a case in point. Despite its history, as a lesser-known region Macon-Chardonnay is great value for money. It’s rested on its lees – spent yeast particles – which intensifies the flavours and gives the texture a creaminess. Peach, apricot, apple and a citrussy freshness. It’s fantastic with soft, creamy cheese.

* Vinsobres Château de Rouanne, Rhone Valley, £16.99 *
You could say that Louis Barruol was destined to become a winemaker. When his father became too ill to run the family winery, he took the reins of the famous Chateau Sainte Cosme at the age of 23. He transformed it into one of the most successful wineries in the region. But that seemingly wasn't enough, as he recently took over the historic Château de Rouanne in the Vinsobres reigon. He sees Vinsobres as the epitome of Rhône terroir, and you can taste it in this old-vine blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Try its flavours of raspberry, violet and black pepper with barbecued beef.

Does anyone fancy a trip to South Africa? Raise your hands.
Premature as that thought may be there's no reason why we can't bring a bit of South Africa into our homes here. There are some fantastic deals on South African wines this week so it's well worth jumping online, picking up the phone or popping in to the store to grab a delectable bargain.

Our initial picks of the bunch are as follows;

Creation Chardonnay at £10.99 (mix six) - a stunning combination of South African sun and Swiss precision from the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. There is a reason this place is called heaven and earth. A wine with beautiful poise, a delicate lick of oak and elegant finish.

Cape of Good Hope Chenin at £13.99 (mix six) - South Africa's noblest white variety. They really do produce some of the best Chenins in the world, often from beautiful old vines. The Cape of Good Hope will put a smile on your face. Great balance, streak of acidity and crescendo of tropical fruit across the palate like waves crashing on the eponymous rocky headland.

The Chocolate Block at £19.99 (mix six) - This wine almost needs no introduction these days such has been the success of Marc Kent's project. One of the current crop of South African winemakers who have breathed new life into the industry in multifarious ways, Marc's passion and adroitness at blending is in evidence vintage after vintage. 2020 was a tricky year as Marc was caught in Amsterdam during lockdown so he had to do the blending over Zoom with his team back in Swartland. For the uninitiated, the Chocolate Block is a wine of depth, richness but with a lightness of touch - the dash of Viognier to complement the darker Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon just lifts the aromatics and keeps you coming back for more.

We'll be adding to these favourites as the week goes on. Come in and pepper us with questions if you'd like to learn more.
