If California is known for one white grape, it’s Chardonnay. And Josh Cellars makes a version that is well-balanced, delicious and carefully sourced – exactly what you want in a wine for sharing with friends and family. The brand was founded with family in mind, in fact, as owner Joseph Carr wanted to pay homage to his US army veteran and volunteer firefighter father. Among the many popular bottlings, this Chardonnay is understandably a favourite given its harmonious balance of citrus, honey, juicy peach and oak flavours. Pair it with creamy pastas, roasted chicken, prawns or steamed mussels.

Incanta Pinot Noir România
£8.50 Mix Six /£9.00 Single Bottle
Romania is where insiders look for great value, great tasting Pinot. It’s in the swing of a post-Soviet winemaking renaissance – and Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife, Elvira, are ready to sing its praises to the rooftops. Their Cramele Recas Estate is now the most successful winery in Romania, and they continue to set new trends for Romanian wine. This Pinot punches way above its price point – and the 2020 vintage was awarded 90 points by Tim Atkin MW. This is a wonderfully approachable wine with notes of fresh black cherry, raspberry and cinnamon. Try its juicy flavours with a classic charcuterie board.

Josh Cabernet Sauvignon  California
£11.00 Mix Six / £15.50 Single Bottle
Founder Joseph Carr named Josh Cellars after his father, a US army veteran and volunteer firefighter. Since day one the brand has believed in making great wines that are carefully sourced, well-balanced and – most importantly – delicious. They work with many different grape varieties, sourced from throughout the Golden State, including enduringly popular Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is seriously rounded and juicy, with blackberry, toasted hazelnut, cinnamon and vanilla notes. A sure fire winner with beef, lamb and pork but for something a bit different, consider pairing it with chocolate desserts too.

Surani Costarossa Primitivo
£13 Mix Six / £13.50 Single Bottle
If you love ripe, bold reds then this is an absolute must-try. We think Puglia is underrated. It’s right in the heel of Italy’s boot – and you’d be forgiven for thinking the sun-baked vines could never produce a wine as silky and soft as this. But it’s precisely that heat that Primitivo loves. The grapes are left on the vines until they’re almost overripe – giving the flavours incredible concentration. Intense. Velvety. Ripe. It’s full of plummy, red-fruit flavour with moreish spice. Ageing in oak for a year gives it an extra dimension of flavour, smoothing the plush tannins. With a distinctly Italian hint of woody herbs, it's ideal with pasta dishes.

What’s on Taste
Carrelet Confidence Sauvignon Blanc, Bordeaux
£8.99 Mix Six / £13.99 Single Bottle
There's more to Bordeaux than claret – and this crisp white is a case in point. It's made by Tutiac, France's largest appellation-focused winery, which has risen to become a cornerstone of Bordeaux winemaking since its founding in 1974. The team crafts this Sauvignon with grapes from low-yielding vines, so the flavours are particularly concentrated. And it's kept deliberately unoaked to let its zesty, fruity character take centre stage. Expect notes of citrus, elderflower and stone fruits, plus a subtle minerality that'll pair perfectly with goat's cheese or white fish.
Piccini ‘Histrio’ Organic Anfora Toscana Bianco
£8.00 Mix Six / £12.99 Single Bottle
Piccini are one of Italy’s most dynamic and innovative producers. Now in their fourth generation of family ownership, they have over 140 years of expertise behind them. Their roots lie in Tuscany – and today they’re considered one of the region’s leading wineries. This aromatic white blend combines two traditional Tuscan grape varieties, Vermentino and Malvasia. It spends seven weeks maturing in special clay amphorae, which gives it an elegant texture while still allowing the fruit flavours to take centre stage. Discover notes of white flowers, orange peel and tropical fruits with a touch of spice and gentle minerality. These complex flavours make it an excellent match for fish and seafood dishes.

Domaine de la Croix Salain Organic Mâcon-Villages
£11.99 Mix Six / £16.99 Single Bottle
Founded almost a century ago, Cave de Lugny have long been the leaders of wine in the Mâcon area of Burgundy. They’re renowned as leaders in sustainability, having been certified in sustainable winegrowing since 2015. But some producers involved in this cooperative wanted to go a step further. A smaller 'domaine' was created, growing vines over 15 hectares best suited to stringent organic practices. This wine hails from that very area, from vines that are an average of 25-30 years old. And it’s delicious proof that you can make great wine whilst being kind to the earth. Expect delicate floral notes and flavours of citrus, ripe peach and apricot. Its fresh, citrusy finish makes it a great pairing with sushi or goat’s cheese.
Edouard Delaunay 'Septembre' Pinot Noir, Burgundy
£8.99 Mix Six / £14.99 Single Bottle
The Edouard Delaunay estate’s rich history dates back to 1893. Its wines were the choice of The Orient Express and the finest restaurants in France. A century later, it fell out of family hands. That’s until 2017, when Laurent Delaunay bought back his great-grandfather’s estate and re-established his deep-rooted family connections with the best local grape-growers. This Pinot Noir is made mainly from grapes from Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. It’s complex and fresh, with flavours of raspberry, blackcurrant and cherry. Try it with duck.

Toast & Honey Pinot Noir 2021/22, California
£9.99 Mix Six / £14.99 Single Bottle
This exclusive Pinot Noir is produced by fourth-generation winemakers with links to some of the best grapes in Lodi, California. Although it’s best known for its Zinfandel, Lodi’s Mediterranean climate produces Pinot Noir with the perfect balance of freshness and ripe, expressive flavours. And none showcase this better than Toast & Honey wines. In their vineyards, care for the vines carries over to the surrounding environment. With sustainability at the heart of everything they do, they promote cover crops and biodiversity – all helping to reduce evaporation, improve soil quality and create a healthy habitat for insects, bugs and, of course, bees. It’s classically silky Californian Pinot with juicy flavours of raspberry, cherry and berry compote, plus complex notes of baking spice from careful use of oak. Its balance of ripe-fruit flavour and oaky hints make it a perfect pairing for sautéed mushrooms or chargrilled meats.

Wave Crest Reserve Syrah 2022, Mount Benson
£10.99 Mix Six / £16.99 Single Bottle
A rich Australian Syrah with all the soft, silky tannins of the Northern Rhone. Let this distinctively savoury wine surprise your taste buds. Unusually for Australia, this Syrah (rather than Shiraz) is created in the Northern Rhone style. This juicy Syrah spends eighteen months in French oak, softening the wine without creating over dry tannins. It’s packed full of dark berry fruits and savoury notes of cedar with a distinctive white pepper complexity. Perfect for a lamb rack or pair with your favourite cheeses.
Selvapiana Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG 2020/21
£15.00 Mix Six / £21.99 Single Bottle
Francesco Giuntini is one of the most respected winemakers in Chanti Rufina. He now crafts this organically, and it goes a long way to show why Chianti Rufina is well worth looking out for. This is a perfumed, elegant red with fine-grained tannins, flavours of dark cherries and spice and a freshness on the finish.

‘La Miranda de Secastilla’ Garnacha Blanca,Somontano
£12.99 Mix Six / £14.99 Single Bottle
Tucked in the north-east of Spain, the limestone-based vineyards of Somontano climb from 350m above sea level up to a sky-scraping 1,000m. It’s a fairly new appellation, only established in 1984. But the Pyrenees setting and diverse range of permitted grape varieties has made it a prime pick for explorative drinkers. A champion of native varietals – especially those indigenous to Spain’s Somontano region – Viñas del Vero were established in the 1980s. The unique vineyard from which this wine is made is set 700m above sea level, which leads to crisp and refreshing flavours in your glass. DIscover aromatic herbaceous notes with green apple and citrus, plus an elegant wet-stone minerality. Its lively, fresh flavours will pair perfectly with light fish dishes and salads.
Domaine Skouras Salto 2022
£10.99 Mix Six / £15.99 Single Bottle
This exciting white is from the prestigious Domaine Skouras winery, located in the Nemea region of Greece. Founded by George Skouras, the estate is known for its innovative approach to winemaking while respecting traditional Greek varieties. Mantineia, a plateau at 650 metres in the Peloponnese, is one of Greece’s coldest wine regions, perfect for late-ripening varieties like Mavrofilero. Surrounded by mountains, it experiences frequent clouds, rain, and frost. George Skouras, the owner and winemaker, studied oenology at Dijon University and worked in France, Italy, and Greece before founding Domaine Skouras in 1986. Skouras specialises in the Mavrofiliera varietal, a highly aromatic grape, similar to Moscofilero, it is named "Mavro" meaning black to reflect the deep greyish colour of its skins. They ferment the grapes with wild yeast, allowing for the purest and most natural expression of this exciting grape. Expect floral aromas of jasmine, rose, honeysuckle and verbena, as well as citrus bursts of lime and lemon. This wine pairs excellently with grilled fish, salty dishes and Mediterranean cuisine.

Jean-Pierre Bailly ‘Les Griottes’ Pouilly-Fumé 2022/23
£14.99 Mix Six / £19.99 Single Bottle
Pouilly-Fumé is a complex, stony and uniquely smoky expression of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. And the Bailly family are experts in the field. Their 17 hectares of vines sit in the heart of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, and the winery is now with the sixth generation. You can certainly taste the expertise in this mineral white. It has expressive aromas of peach, lemon and white flowers, and a long, citrusy finish. Try it with prawns in lemon butter.

Hospices de Beaujeu Bourgogne Gamay 2021/22
£12.99 Mix Six / £14.99 Single Bottle
In existence since 1240 the Hospice de Beaujeu have received numerous donation of land over the years and now own 80.5 hectares of vineyards. This Gamay has a classic Burgundian character with lots of fruit flavours and woody notes.

Domini Veneti 'La Casetta' Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore 2019
£14.99 Mix Six / £18.99 Single Bottle
This is Valpolicella Ripasso with a difference. Ripasso wines are made by adding the leftover grape skins from Amarone production to standard Valpolicella, giving greater depth of flavour, texture and tannin. But Domini Veneti’s winemakers go a step further to make La Casetta. They re-ferment the wine with skins leftover from making Recioto – an intensely rich dessert wine – which pushes it into another dimension of flavour. Consider this an exceptional value ‘Baby Amarone’. It’s intense and spicy with rich, heady aromas. Expect notes of plum, cherry, chocolate and dried fruits. The silky texture and elegant tannins match perfectly with game dishes or roasted mushrooms.
Parcel Series San Juan Malbec 2023
£11.99 Mix Six / £17.99 Single Bottle
Discover a fruit-forward wine that showcases flavours of dark berries like blackberry and blueberry, with a hint of raspberry. Full-bodied yet velvety and smooth, with a satisfying finish.

Chapel Down Brut, Kent
£22.00 Mix Six / £35.00 Single Bottle
Made using the laborious and expensive ‘traditional method’, standard in Champagne. But though it’s made from the same grapes – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – these are altogether zestier bubbles. Apple. Lemongrass. Quince. It’s fresh, fruity and really moreish. Perfect to cut through the crunchy batter of fish and chips.

Famille Brocard Chablis 2022/23
£17.99 Mix Six / £19.99 Single Bottle
The Brocard family has been creating fantastic Chardonnay in the heart of Chablis since 1973. Today, Jean-Marc Brocard is committed to respecting the environment while creating complex, mineral and remarkably fresh wine. It certainly shows here. This is mouthwateringly delicious. Think pink grapefruit, lemon and tangerine. Try its citrusy acidity with the tanginess of goat's cheese.
Famille Bougrier 'Les Roches Blanches' Sauvignon Blanc 2022/23, Touraine
£11.99 Mix Six / £13.99 Single Bottle
If you’re looking for excellent value Loire Sauvignon, the Touraine region is a great starting point. Not all wines here are created equal. But thankfully our buyers know just how to dig out gems capable of rivalling global favourites, Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Consider this elegant wine one such contender. It’s made by Famille Bougrier – a family-run company that’s been established since 1885. The wine spends six months ageing on its lees, enriching its texture and developing lively flavours. The extra time spent means it’s worth the wait. You’ll find it crisp and refreshing, with concentrated flavours of zingy lime and grapefruit. A streak of minerality makes it elegant – and a delicious complement to smoked fish.
Martín Códax Albariño 2022/23, Rías Baixas
£12.99 Mix Six / £16.99 Single Bottle
Martín Códax was named after a Galician troubadour whose medieval poems are love songs to the sea. If the soil and the sun are the main characters in the story of Albariño, then the sea is the supporting act. The wild Atlantic coastline forces growers up to high altitudes. Here, the sea tempers the climate, so it’s more cool and damp than neighbouring regions. This Albariño is Rías Baixas in a bottle. The grapes are grown in terrifyingly steep amphitheatres overlooking the waves – you can taste the salt in the air in your glass. Peachy. Citrusy. Fresh. It’s the perfect seaside wine, so it’s no surprise that it’s made for seafood – for octopus, for piles of clams and hard-won goose barnacles, a Galician speciality.
