Wine of the Week!

Bellingham, The Bernard Series Viognier, Hand Picked 2013, South Africa, Western Cape

Celebrating the legendary maverick founder of Bellingham, Bernard Podlashuk, 'The Bernard Series' is an homage to his efforts in placing South Africa on the winemaking map. Hand picked grapes are fermented and aged in one year old French oak with 4% lees contact.

Perfumed aromas of peaches, lychees, rose petal and spice are complemented by rich layers of fruit with spicy undertones of white pepper and cinnamon on the palate with a lingering and inviting finish.

Will partner well with delicately flavoured, creamy seafood and poultry dishes. Enjoy over the next two years.

For hearty casseroles and slow-roasted joints try Langunilla Reserva or Delas CDR, both at an incredible £6.66*, or for a little more Vina Equia Gran Reserva at £8.99*.

Online exclusive!! Laurent Miquel Vérité Viognier 2012 PGI Pays d'Oc 6x75cl BottlesDate published: 12/09/14

Laurent Miquel Vérité Viognier 2012 PGI Pays d'Oc 6x75cl Bottles

Specialising in Viognier production since the 90s, the Vérité is a distinguished and pure cuvee, offering delicate white peach, floral and toasted aromas. From the best parcels of the estate, this is a great example of what the Languedoc can do in the best vintages.

The palate is generous, yet well balanced with well integrated oak that does not mask the pure Viognier character but rather adds to the structure. Vérité has a lingering opulent finish.

Wine of the Week: Parcel Series Cabernet Merlot, South AfricaDate published: 12/09/14

Wine of the Week: Parcel Series Cabernet Merlot, South Africa

Parcel Series Cabernet Merlot Reserve 2012 Western Cape

£6.66 when you mix and match at least 2 bottles from the 33% off promotion!!

This is an exclusive special parcel of wine obtained at a remarkably low price from a well-known, multi-award-winning organically farmed estate in South Africa. Hand-harvested, fermented in traditional open tanks, and matured for 18 months in French and American oak.

An attractive ruby-garnet colour, this wine shows its class with a nose of rich cassis and red charry fruit with forest-floor undertones. Smooth tannins, rich palate fruit and a hint of minerality.

An excellent partner to exquisite slow cooked shin of beef in a rich gravy, or alternatively indulge in a rack of lamb with oven roasted veg and lightly spiced cous-cous.

Fantastic Champagne Deals!!Date published: 02/09/14

Once again we have a lovely selection of Champagnes reduced by 33% and three of them are my favourite!!!

Perrier Jouet Grand Brut at £24.99 - The style is friendly and open, with a refreshing ripeness to the soft, appley fruit and a zesty mousse. Perfect with canapes and ideal as an apéritif.

Louis Roederer Brut Premier NV at £29.98 - From the maker of Cristal, a deliciously rich Champagne, with an overt fruitiness and nutty, yeasty notes. A long, complex and rewarding finish is a hallmark of the house style.

Pol Roger Reserve NV at £33.31 - Pol Roger's historic underground cellars are 33m deep and average particularly low temperatures. They thus provide an environment uniquely suited to slow fermentation, and are responsible for this Champagne's famously super-fine mousse.

By far and away these are my three favourite Champagnes... not to be missed on these offers so try and find an excuse to pop a cork!

It's Here - The Craft Beer Revolution!Date published: 18/06/14

It's Here - The Craft Beer Revolution!

Gone are the days of boring beer. Walk into any pub, bar or restaurant and you can get so more than just a carling on draught! Micro-breweries are popping up everywhere and why not - there is so much variation with the humble hop and barley that there is ample opportunity to carve a little niche in a rapidly expanding market.

We like to think that, at Majestic, we have spent our time searching, researching and of course, tasting our way around as many craft breweries as possible. We have some great beers and our range is expanding every day. And, whats more, if you buy any two of our craft ales, you save £6!!

Here are just a few beers that you must try this summer. Don't ask questions, just trust us!

Einstok Icelandic White Ale - £9.99

From the north of Iceland, this is modelled on the traditional Belgian witbier. Infused with coriander and orange peel, this is a zesty little thing. It maintains a fine balance between full bodied and light and, ultimately, is incredibly refreshing after a long day at work!

Punk IPA - £9.99

The growing empire of Scottish company Brewdog is a testament to their skill and dedication in making fine beer. Punk IPA is a light, golden beer with plenty of tropical fruits and a hit of refreshing citrus.

Brooklyn Summer Ale - £9.99

From the guys at Brooklyn comes a slightly lighter, fresher beer. Light enough for lager lovers and meaty enough for ale lovers, this is the perfect blend! Crisp and clean, this is those who enjoy a flavoursome tipple

Help; my wine is corked!Date published: 26/05/14

Unfortunately, cork taint is an inevitable problem when sealing wine with natural cork. Here at Majestic, however, we feel it shouldn't cause you any hassle!

It's as easy as pie for us to replace; either we can credit the value of the bottle against your next order, or we can do a simple swap and change for you.

If ordering online or over the phone, be sure to put a note in the delivery instructions space to say that you have a bottle you'd like to return due to it being corked or just mention it to us when ordering over the phone. We can then arrange to collect and replace the offending bottle when delivering.

If you prefer to see our smiling faces in store, you can return the bottle to us here and we can exchange it!

All we ask that you keep the bottle and some of the wine inside, so that we can record the nature of the fault and helping to assist our suppliers in their quality control.

Why doesn't wine taste like grapes?!Date published: 10/03/14

It is a little ironic that wine is made entirely from grapes and yet if you have a glass, it rarely tastes like grapes. In fact, it can taste of almost anything, from pineapple to lemon (for white wine), from plum, to leather (in the case of red wine).

Some people even think that small amounts of these fruits are added to wine to change the flavour, but it is in fact the extremely complex process of wine-making which actually changes the chemical compounds found in the grapes so that they resemble those found in other fruits.

Almost every step of the wine-making process can change the flavour and body of the wine, for example the can undergo Malalactic Fermentation, which changes the harsh Malic Acid (acid found in apples, lemons etc) into Lactic Acid (acids found in dairy). New World Chardonnay often undergoes this process to turn an appley, citrusy wine into a creamy, buttery wine.

If you would like to know more about these processes, simply ask a member of staff next time you are in store and they will be happy to go into more detail.

Store Tasting(7)

What we're tasting today...

Meet the team...

  • Hannah Senior Manager

I started my Majestic career in Nottingham 6 years ago, after a tour of the north west, having worked in Birkdale, Chester and most recently Macclesfield, I am back! A massive Chardonnay fan, one of my favourites being Catena Alta Chardonnay. I am also partial to a glass of Provence Rose, especially when the sun is shining!
  • Simon Trainee Manager

This is the second store on my Majestic journey having spent my first few months at Nottingham North. My quest began with favourites firmly routed in the New World and Spain. However after just a few months at Majestic I have learned to appreciate that every wine has a special place and perfect partner.
  • Steve Trainee Manager

I've just made a short jump across Nottingham from the new North Nottingham store. I'm gaining some great wine knowledge and am developing a keen taste for Chardonnay and Syrah. I have a great love of all things food related so if you are looking for a food pairing i'll always be on hand to give you an idea.
  • Will Senior Assistant Manager

This is my second stint in the Nottingham store so I already recognise a few faces! I'm a huge fan of all things Pinot Noir and I've been really impressed some the new Beaujolais wines that we have in this summer!
