    A is For...

    Marc

    Argentina!,
It is the fifth biggest wine producer in the World and since the late 1990's it has gained a reputation for being one of the most dynamic wine exporters out there. The first recorded plantation was in 1557 and by 1561, Mendoza was established as the key commercial producing region.
Argentina is famous for producing the red classic grape varieties  such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir however, Malbec has become Argentina's most distinctive red grape variety and also one of its biggest exports, despite it being of French origin! Argentina also produces many quality white grapes including Pinot Grigio Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc but one of its more unique and interesting white wines is Torrontes, having a distinct aromatic quality.

Argentine wines represent fantastic quality and value, so we recommend trying:

Vinalba Torrontes 2011 £9.99 or £7.99 when you buy 2 or more

    Catena Chardonnay £12.99

    Alamos Malbec 2011 £8.99

    Gavi De Gavi La Toledana

    Marc

We have decided to open up the delectable Gavi De Gavi La Toledana as part of our Italian tasting week to show off one of the more unusual but fantastic white wines Italy has to offer!

This is one of the excellent wines that is produced in one of the vineyards closest to the much celebrated village of Gavi, Piedmont, giving it the sought after 'Gavi de Gavi' title. It is suggested that Gavi is the 'Chablis'  of Italy due to the charecter of the white wines produced being steely and fresh in taste, and this is no exception either!

On the palate this wine exhibits delicate notes of peach, apricot and pear with a crisp citrus edge. The subtle steely minerality matches that of some chablis and is complemented by fresh acidity. The unique side of this wine is the slight Honeyed edge it has due to a later harvest, which gives it and overall off-dry style.

This wine perfect for summer and is outstanding value at just £7.99 (when you buy 2 or more Italian wines)

come In and give it a try this weekend!

    Manager

Hi, I have been with Majestic for 6 years and been in the on and off trades for 13. Favourite wines for me are white Burgundy and Italian reds especially Brunello but I'll drink what ever I'm in the mood for at the time. Also really partial to the odd pint or two of real ale.

  • Marc

    Assistant Manager

I Have worked for Majestic for over a year now and in this time I have learnt to love left bank Bordeaux and aged Rioja, I have always enjoyed new world Chardonnay and will never turn down a glass of Champagne!
