Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot 2010 McLaren Vale
The late Greg Trott, winemaker at Wirra Wirra, named this wine after one of the original vineyard blocks from which the blend was made in 1972. Originally a Grenache and Shiraz blend, the wine has evolved over the years into this Cabernet-biased Aussie hybrid.
This combines two of my greatest love's in wine; a big Mclaren vale red and a cabernet blend.
An aromatic nose, full of cedar, aniseed, clove and leaf notes. Bright plum, bramble and cherry fruit characterise the plush and juicy palate, supported by smooth-textured tannins.
Due the the cabernet dominance in this wine I would aim to pair this with Sesame Seared Duck served rare with a plum dressed oriental slaw.
