Wine of the Week - open on the tasting counter today!

    Yalumba
    Eden Valley Viognier
    2010

    Grapes

    100% Viognier

    Origin

Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around".
    Taste

Pure aromas of apricot nectar, honeysuckle and orange oil. The palate is long, rich and luscious, with intense stone fruit flavours and finishes with an aromatic citrus freshness.
    Enjoy
Enjoy with Maroccan Tagine, lamb or poultry.
    What the Press said
"Well, if viognier was this good, sauvignon blanc would have a real fight on its hands for the hearts and minds of Australian white-wine drinkers. This '10 Eden (Valley) viognier is packed full of complex aromas of musk, apricot and vanilla, with a luscious palate that finishes with a nutty, dry finish. At no point does it become too cloying or sweet, a common fault of lesser examples."

    Food and wine

    The Chef

Last night it was chilli con carne made by my own fair hand on thursday so it had had a day to spice itself up. It's always a challenge with spicey food but we went for the Two Hands Angels Share Shiraz which has a good fruit level and enough spice to hold up to the chilli. It's a combo worth trying !

    FINE WINE FRIDAY!!!

Nicolas Potel Vielles Vignes Pommard 2008

Pommard is a village in the Cote de Beaune, to the south of Beaune itself, and is situated in an area of iron rich soils. This gives wines from the area a more robust character with good tannic structure affording the wines better ageing potential.

This wine is deep garnet in appearance with an alluring bouquet of redcurrant jelly, toast and subtle smokiness.

On the palate it is well textured with dense savoury sweet fruit and tightly wound tannins. It has medium body and would accompany pork dishes excellently.

If you are looking for a few bottles of Burgundy to lie down for a few years, this would be a good example of something robust enough to have cellaring potential.

And the price I hear you ask??? All this for just £19.99!!

Feel free to come in and try the wine on Friday, with no obligation to buy of course. We look forward to seeing you!

Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010/2011 Montana,

    Origin

One of New Zealand's most iconic and well-known wineries, Montana is also its largest wine company. Without Montana, New Zealand wines as we know them would barely appear on the world wine map. Producing wines that typify the Kiwi style and showcase their place of origin.

New Zealand in a glass...vibrant and lifted aromas of ripe tropical fruits and gooseberry. Bracing acidity is tempered by concentrated green fruits, citrus and hints of chalk with a reviving fresh finish.
    Enjoy

Drinking at its best now as either as an apéritif or with lemon chicken, Thai spices, fresh fish or seafood.

Our Team

  • Nick

    Manager

I am one of the most senior managers at Majestic in age but in no other way. I am a firm believer in the old maxim..' wine with food and food with wine ' but also firmly believe that if there's no food about then you should drink fine wine instead...especially red Burgundy, Bordeaux or Rioja. As a linguist I can translate from both the Brummie and the Blackburn into southern English.

  • Stephen

    Assistant Manager

I started my Majestic career in Birmingham before moving down to Canterbury in March. Like Nick, I prefer to drink wine with a well prepared meal, typically Spanish food, while French food also goes down well. I'm a big fan of ales and look forward to trying what Kent has to offer in comparison to the midlands!

  • Mike

    Sales Assistant

Just ask me to do a back somersault from a standing start ,back flip down the store aisles and walk up walls...but not all at the same time. I'm particularly fond of satellite navigation devices and try hard not to get lost in Canterbury

  • Steven

    Trainee Manager

I've worked at Majestic for over a year now and was brought to the Canterbury store to act as an interpreter for Stephen's (Assistant Manager) ridiculous Brum accent. I like long walks on the beach, socialising with friends and reading poetry to less fortunate children. My favorite wines are Chardonnay from Burgundy and Argentine Malbec.
