    Wine of the Week...

    Amanda

As it starts to get a little warmer ( we hope), now is the time that I begin to get very excited about fish dishes.

So it was with great anticipation, that I raced home after work last night for "him-in-doors" latest offering.

Pan fried salmon fillets, served on a bed of crushed new potatoes and pea and leak mash.

    Delicious !

Our wine of the week, the Reuilly Cuvee Nathalie from Nathalie Lafond went perfectly with the dish.

Clean, crisp with a really fresh finish, this is a great alternative to Sancerre or Pouilly Fume, and at £8.99 on 2 or more, a fantastic price.

    Bon Appetit !

Something to Cheer Us Up... Fine Wine of the Week

    Louise

So much for drinking provence rose in the sun with the BBQ going; we need a rich, warming red to enjoy with a roast whilst sitting in front of the fire. Our fine wine of the week is the La Réserve de Léoville-Barton 2009 St-Julien.

From the gravelly dunes of Léoville-Barton's vineyards, leading down to the bank of the Gironde, La Réserve is the second wine of this famous property. As an earlier drinking version of the grand vin, this is real value for money.

With a classic 'left bank' nose of smoky blackberry fruit and pencil lead, the palate is rich and rounded with assertive tannins, ample fruit and well integrated oak.

Enjoy now or put down for 5 years. Perfectly matches a delicious lamb dish.

Such a great wine and an even better price - £25.

    Bromley's Wine of the Week

    Louise

We have enjoyed some great Italian wines this week to celebrate Italian Tasting Week. You won't be surprised to hear we have chosen an Italian wine for our wine of the week. The stand-out white was the Falanghina 2010, Terredora.

Falanghina is a more unusual grape from Italy has been on its lees aging before bottling which gives it added depth. But there is no oak been used so it is still light and fruity.

There is bags of citrus fruit and hints of apple coming across on the palate which makes it a great all rounder. On the finish there is a hint of nut which is well integrated.

Open and enjoy now as the perfect match to a wide range of dishes from fish to poultry to roasted vegetables.

With 20% off all our Italian wines, this is £8.79. And is open to try in-store at Majestic Bromley.

Tom's Movie and Wine For The Bank Holiday.

    Tom

Tom's Movie and Wine For The Week.

This week is a bit different as it is the bank holiday so I have found a film for the Monday that you can watch with a bottle of wine.

This bank holiday I have gone for Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1992 and yes they did make a film before the TV series. This film is a comedy horror all about a teenage girl that learns she is destined to battle vampires. The film is all a bit light hearted and the horror is nothing compared to the films of today. You will be able to see why they went with Sarah Michelle Gellar and not Kristy Swanson for the TV show, as the acting is bad in places though works well with the comedy of the film. (Ben Affleck does appear in one scene, see if you can spot him). The wine to go with this film and make that great night in on the Bank Holiday is the Beaujolais-villages 2010 Domaine des Nugues. This pure Gamay is hand harvested and gives aromas of red berries, red fruit and spice, with light soft tannins that makes very easy drinking. I have picked this wine to go with the film as it's light, easy to drink and perfect for a comedy. The vibrant red colour of the wine does look a little like the blood from the film, which is another plus point.

The Film is on Monday 7th of April at 7.20pm on Film 4, so TIVO or Sky+ it, so you can watch it whenever you want with my wine of choice over the Bank Holiday.

    Enjoy.....

Bromley Fine Wine Of The Week is .....

    Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

Martinborough Vineyard produces some of the best Pinot in New Zealand, having made some of the first plantings near the town of Martinborough. Their consistently excellent and internationally acclaimed style has come to represent the terrior of the Martinborough Terrace. A fantastic, complex and seductive aroma of red cherry, spice, tobacco and earth. Perfectly balanced, an elegant and beguiling structure of tannin and fruit and a long, complex and layered finish. If you can resist drinking it, the wine will develop and improve over 10 years, but the seductive fruit allows for immediate drinking.

It is open on our tasting counter to try and is really worth the money.

    Manager

Having finished my Masters, I joined Majestic as a trainee in 1996 - I'm still here; having worked in a multitude of stores from Mayfair to Catford. My wine passions include the wines from Burgundy, and my Friday night fizz with fish and chips. Meursault 1er Cru and Vintage Champagnes are my dream wines.

    Trainee Manager

I have been working in the company for 12 months and this is my second store. I like the style of German and Alsace wines and the new world alternatives like the McGuigan shortlist riesling.

  • Anna

    Trainee Manager

I have come to Bromley after a spell at the Redhill store. I'm currently on a placement year from University, being with Majestic has given me bags of experience which I can tell people all about when I return to Manchester. I am big fan of New Zealand Sauvignon's, but the Argentine Malbec is not far behind!
