Wine of the Week - Vinalba Torrontes (Argentina)

    Nick

This week we've gone for an unusual but increasingly popular wine from Argentina. The Torrontes grape is native to Argentina and creates an aromatic, light bodied wine that is fantastic with lighter summer dishes.

The Torrontes grape is a distant relation of Muscat, and has become Argentina's signature white variety. It produces bright and perfumed white wines in the sunny yet cool high-altitude vineyards of Argentina.

Bursting with ripeness, the nose is a cascade of tropical fruit and blossom aromas. Lively flavours of white peach, melon, pear and pineapple provide a refreshing and involving palate sensation.

Best served with mild Thai curries or dressed prawn salads.

    £9.99 a bottle buy 2 save £4 only £7.99

Fine Wine Friday - YOU DECIDE!!!

    Nick

After last months celebration of the old world this month I'm turning to some wonderful New World wines to tantalise your taste buds!

Option A: Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2008 (Stellenbosch, South Africa) £25 down from £30.

Kanonkop's flagship wine this Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bordeaux blend has a healthy portion of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis and tea leaf lead into a powerful yet elegant wine with silky tannins. This wine is at its best when decanted and whilst drinking well now will age in bottle for a decade or more.

Option B: Au Bon Climat 'Bien Nacido' Chardonnay 2009 (Santa Maria Valley, California) £23

This wonderful Chardonnay from a premium Californian site has a sensational and complex nose of apple, toast, lomean curd and roasted nuts with a delicate hint of oak with the sweetness of cinnamon. A classy example of the best California has to offer with a wonderfully long finish to savour.

Option C: Two Hands 'Gnarly Dudes' Shiraz 2010 (Barossa Valley, Australia) £22 save £8 when you buy 2 = £18

Sourced from mature 'gnarled' shiraz vines in the Barossa Valley and aged in French oak or 12 months this intense and complex wine offers a wide array of fruit complemented by toffee, chocolate and chestnuts, a full bodied wine with good length and lovely textured tannins. Ready to drink now but developing well for another 5 years.

We wish we could try them all but only one can win, to vote, simply pop in store to fill in a voting slip or tweet us @majesticbrh.

Wine of the Week - Black Cottage Pinot Noir Rose (NZ)

    Nick

As the weather threatens to warm up a bit we thought we'd pick one of our new Roses as Wine of the Week. The Black Cottage Rose is  lovely blend of Pinot Noir with the light Pinot Gris.

Estate owner and winemaker David Clouston took his inspiration for this rosé from his time spent making wines in France and Corsica. The delicate style owes more to Sancerre or Provence rosé than it does to the bolder, more vibrant rosés typical of the New World.

Pale salmon pink, this wine has a gentle and attractive nose of ripe red berries and subtle spice. Light and refreshing, the delicate fruit and crisp acidity fade to a clean, dry finish.

Chill well and enjoy on its own or with salads or prawn dishes.

As part of our NZ 20% off deal this wine is only £9.99 (usually £12.49)

Wine of the week: Morellino di Scansano 2010/2011 Poggioargentiera

    Rob

In Scansano, in the southern part of Tuscany, Morellino is the local name for Sangiovese. In this case blended with 15% Ciliegiolo, another indigenous local grape, this is a slim and youthful style of red, with only a third of the blend spending 6-8 months in new oak.

Ripe cherry and strawberry fruit forms the backbone of this wine, which is medium-bodied and approachable, and fresh in feel. A subtly rustic streak gives a touch of complexity and food friendliness.

Partner with anything from lamb chops to game, either immediately or within the next 5 years.

    £8.99
when you buy two Italian bottles or more (usually £11.24)
