Grange is arguably the most celebrated Australian wine in the world. It’s made by one of the country’s finest producers, Penfolds. The estate’s success lies with its lineage of visionary Chief Winemakers. There have only ever been four at the helm – Max Schubert, Don Ditter, John Duval and Peter Gago – all of whom have been recognised for their incredible expertise that spans over 150 years. Grange is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia, and it’s been made in an unbroken line of vintages since 1951. The 2018 vintage was made predominantly from Shiraz, carefully selected from three of the country’s most renowned sites in Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. It’s bold and intense with flavours of blackberry, blackcurrant and dark chocolate, alongside earthy mushroom notes. Penfolds declare that it will continue to develop for 50 years, but if you can’t wait to try it now, pair its complex flavours with rich red meat dishes.
