Info
Bordeaux takes the crown for the most convoluted labelling system in France. For starters, it’s still based on an 1885 classification where châteaux were classed as different ‘growths’. It’s enough to give anyone a headache – and that’s before you’ve even opened the bottle. Luckily, ‘Crus Bourgeois’ is a label which can steer you through the hundreds of Petits Châteaux like a beacon of quality. And Château Fontesteau is one of the classics. It’s old-school claret, with a robust structure and fine tannins which will last for years. Being Haut-Médoc, it’s mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, so it’s full of those classic Cabernet cassis flavours. Rich. Full. Concentrated. It’s nice and red-fruity – think cherry and strawberry. Perfect with a good cheese board.
