Montagny is an appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise. It’s a real enclave of quality, specialising in Chardonnay. In fact, it’s the only grape that’s grown in the whole region – so Montagny-based Cave de Buxy really know their Chardonnay inside-out. Montagny’s limestone soils mean the wines are fresh, with a fuller body than other Chalonnaise wines. The fruit flavours are really pronounced – a factor amped up by the fact that it’s ‘Vielles Vignes’. It’s made using grapes from thirty-year-old vines. Because they’re old, they only yield small amounts of grapes – so all the flavour is exceptionally concentrated. Think ripe apple, citrus and white blossom. The ripeness is balanced by serious crispness, and it’s left unoaked so the fruit flavours can really shine through. Perfect with chicken.
If you like inky, plush Italian reds, then chances are you’ve come across Amarone. It’s made by letting some grapes dry out on the vine and by drying a portion of the grapes in the sun – a process called appassimento. But it’s less well known that the tradition of making wines this way also has a rich Sicilian heritage. For centuries, island winemakers have used appassimento to make sweet dessert wines. But this – an appassimento Nero d’Avola – is something entirely new. Nero d’Avola is the island’s signature red. It’s perfect with the island’s rich tomato-and-aubergine-based ragùs. But this appassimento style has the flavour dial turned up. Drying the grapes supercharges all the flavours. You’ll be hit by those intense cherry and blackcurrant aromas the minute you pour a glass.
Oyster Bay has been an award-winning gold-standard Marlborough Sauvignon since its very first vintage, and it’s only got better and better. It was even formerly named the ‘Best Sauvignon Blanc in the World’ – and they have the name recognition to prove it. It’s really no surprise then that their Sauvignon is textbook Marlborough. Big. Fruity. Tropical. To say it’s mouth-wateringly refreshing is an understatement – the smell of gooseberries and lime will hit you the minute you unscrew the bottle. It’s really versatile – delicious as a glassful on sofa, for parties or with a flaky goat’s cheese tart.
Portuguese red blends are a bit of a Majestic speciality. They’re easy-drinking, rich, packed with juicy fruit flavours and great value. Not to mention, they’re a bit out of the ordinary. None of your bog-standard red grapes here – we look for a blend of exotic Portuguese natives to give you something a little different and a lot exciting. And we’ve really stepped up our game with this exclusive bottling. It’s made by one of Portugal’s top winemakers, (his trophy cabinet is unsurpassed) – in homage to Lisbon’s legendary food scene. It’s big. It’s bold. It’s unashamedly drinkable – all brambly fruit with a kick of spice. Plus, it’ll enhance any richly flavoured food you throw at it, whether that’s barbecue or a warming casserole. You’ll love it.
