Carignan can be a little rough and ready. It’s usually used to make simple table wine, but this is something quite different. Everything is focussed on quality. It’s made using grapes from at least fifty-year-old vines – some are even a hundred years old. Such age means that the yield of grapes from each vine is tiny – and the flavours are really concentrated. Part of it is aged in oak to give it some good structure, but it’s still a really juicy, fresh wine. It was made to be really easy-drinking – and it really does slip down oh-so-easily. It’s packed with brambly fruit flavours. Blackberry. Cherry. A hint of vanilla and spice. This style of Carignan is absolutely delicious with roast pork or a meaty chicken casserole.

Puglia is the heel of Italy’s boot, best known for rustic, inky reds. Appassimento wines, on the other hand, are usually thought of as distinctly northern Italian. That’s all set to change, thanks to this: appassimento wine made using Primitivo grapes. Puglia’s sun-drenched and windswept vineyards offer an ideal climate for the appassimento process. The growers behind this wine move through the vines, twisting the stem of every other bunch. This stops the grapes from further ripening, so they dry in the warm wind, resulting in maximum flavour. Its's a big, plush, velvety red full of ripe fruit flavours like cherries, raspberries and redcurrants. Fantastic with a robust meaty stew.

FREE CHILLER BINS HIRE

Majestic offers free chiller bin* loan for customers purchasing wine from us.

Our bins hold 18-24 bottles of wine or Champagne or 2-3 cases of lager when filled with ice and water. Drinks will be chilled in 30-45 minutes and will be kept cold for several hours, especially if kept in the shade.
We can also sell the ice to go in a chiller bin, or have it arrive separately - simply contact your local store after placing your order.
