Grape

Merwah, Obaideh

Origin
Produced in one of the most inhospitable areas for winemaking, not just due to weather or topography, Serge Hochar has to contend with shelling and troop movements. The picturesque Bekaa valley produces intense and powerful reds along with rich and perfumed whites.
Taste
Deep golden hues from a glass that exudes baked apple, almond, brioche, apricot and vanillin aromas. A buttery, rich, honey textured and wine with vanilla, butterscotch, roasted stonefruit and spice.
Enjoy
A difficult wine to match with food due to the intensity and the rich characteristics. Try with soft and rich cheeses.

    Fabulous wine

I love this wine. But don't attempt to drink it straight after opening, or too cold. It is, in my experience, at its multifaceted, complex best three or four days after opening. A unique wine.

    interesting - needs food

Not very intense on the nose, deliberately oxidized, full bodied and complex palate, dried fruit and flowers, long finish. Has made for a great dinner - served at room temperature in with a savoury bitter radicchio risotto and cheeses. Different enough to justify the price.

    Disappointingly expensive

Not at all comparable to the red Musar..

    Expensive to be experimental!

I enjoy trying new wines and varieties but this is disappointing. A dry sherry even an uncorked flavour which is an acquired taste. Stick to their fabulous reds instead!

The Hochars have done it again

Bit of a Marmite wine as it’s so unique, but definitely worth trying if you can appreciate the finer things in life. Ages beautifully as well, had the 78 white a couple of years ago. Great value for Money
